10 Art – Portrait Etchings

It’s always great to be able to share and celebrate our student artistic achievements at EDSC.

During Semester 1, our Year 10 Art students worked through a studio process to develop an idea based on Portraiture and combined this with another theme/idea of choice.

Some of these themes included: Nature and Isolation; Life and death; Peace and Serenity; Emotion; Money and Greed; Self Reflection;

Students were encouraged to develop their ideas based on their chosen theme, through mind mapping, annotating existing artists works and developing drawings that would explore their intended idea or message.

These drawings then formed the basis of a design that later became etched into an acetate sheet, using a sharp, needle like tool.

Students then learnt how to ink up their etching plate and print their designs onto damp 200gsm paper using the printing press.

The end result being some beautiful expressions of Portraiture and how this can be used as a vehicle to connect ideas or messages to an audience.

I hope to be able to display these onsite at EDSC in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, please enjoy looking through some examples of these students' works.
