Learning and Teaching

Specialists Program Term 3

During Term 3 we are excited to begin preparing for our St Mary’s Production. Students Years 3-6 will participate and prepare for the production, held in Week 10.

To support preparations and alleviate staffing shortages due to COVID 19 and illness, students will participate in a 3 way rotation instead of 4 way rotation during specialists for Term 3. Students will continue to receive Art, STEM, Performing Arts and Social and Emotional Learning on a rotation.

Mathematics

This term, we are introducing Essential Assessment as an online platform for gathering data to inform and guide student learning. This platform will supplement our existing assessment suite and will allow for teachers and students together, to set goals around their learning progression. The platform compliments the teaching practice here at St Mary’s, and will ensure that we are facilitating data driven discussions to provide next steps in student learning.

Literacy - what’s trending…..

The National Center on improving Literacy recommends playing audiobooks or reading aloud at home to increase the amount of language your child hears.

They are encouraging families to show the importance of language, reading, and writing in their households, by having different kinds of print visible in the home (books, newspapers, letters, postcards).

Vision & Graduate Outcomes

Students who graduate from St Mary’s aim to demonstrate these qualities in all that they do. We regularly discuss these words as part of our positive behaviour focus.
