Surviving this cold spell
If colder weather and shorter days cause you to feel the winter blues, you are not alone. It is not uncommon to experience fatigue, sadness, difficulty concentrating, and a disruption in your sleep schedule during the winter season.
For some, this mood change is temporary and easily managed with lifestyle modifications. But for others, the winter blues can turn into a more severe type of depression called seasonal affective disorder or SAD.
The good news? There are things you can do to beat the winter blues.
- Lace up your running shoes and get moving
- Plan a mini excursion, and put thought into it
- Set your alarm clock and stick to a sleep routine
- Queue up a stream of Laugh-Out-Loud movies
- Warm yourself up with a mug of real hot cocoa
- Host a festive gathering – one that is NOT going to stress you out
- Give yourself a manageable task to accomplish
- Don't let your To-Do List get too out of hand
- Don't hesitate to see your healthcare professional
