Middle School News

Middle School Exams

We were very impressed with our Year 9 and 10 students during their mid-year examinations, which ran from Monday 6 to Wednesday 8 June. It was also fantastic to see students take up the opportunity to attend exam catch up sessions for the students who missed their scheduled exams due to illness, which ran on Report Writing Day (Thursday 9 June) and afterschool on Thursday 16 June. Thank you to all students for their preparedness and focus and to all supervising teachers who ensured exams ran smoothly.

MEGAR Week

Congratulations to all of the Year 9 students who participated in MEGAR Week. There were a wide array of activities from yoga to Food studies and Zumba as well presentations from Batyr promoting strong mental health in young people, to Not Even Once, presenting on drugs and alcohol, and many more.

The  Frankston Youth Centre bus with a range of games and activities was a highlight.  Many Year 9 students donated a day to working on community projects as volunteers. A great experience for them as well as supporting our local area.

The week concluded with a performance by a fabulous magician, a great lead in to the school holidays. MEGAR  week promotes Mindfulness, Empathy, Gratitude, Acceptance and Resilience --- all important qualities and values for society today. This an wonderful opportunity to concentrate on important learning that is not directly linked to academic subject content. We hope students found it fun and eye opening.

It was a huge organisational task to get MEGAR Week up and running --- a special thank you to Mr Aaron Elias and Ms Paige Jessulat for pulling the whole week together and to Mrs Sarah Bahramis  for organising the community involvement aspect of the program.

Year 10 Work Experience

Congratulations to our Year 10 students who have participated in their Work Experience Program during the last week of Term 2. We are looking forward to welcoming you back Term 3 and hearing all about your positive experiences across different industries and careers. This experience has been nicely timed to ensure you can use this learning to help plan and select the most suitable program and course for 2023 and 2024 (Year 11 and 12).

Year 10 Into Year 11 Course Counselling

Students are continuing in the ‘Plan’ phase of their course selection process. They should be using the 2023 Senior School Course Selection Handbook on Compass (under the star tab) to read through the different subject offerings to plan their 2023 program.

Students are reminded to check the VTAC Prerequisite Booklet (via the Frankston High School Careers Website – accessible via the Compass star tab) to ensure they design a program that includes the required prerequisites for their tertiary course/s.

During the 'Select' phase of Course Counselling students will have a Course Counselling interview where they can discuss subject preferences during their scheduled appointment. Appoints will occur over three days (2 August, 4 August and 10 August).

The booking system will be open for you to make an appointment for your course counselling interview on Monday 6 June 2022 and it will remain open until the course counselling appointments begin on Tuesday 2 August 2022. The process for booking an appointment is the same as parents/carers use to book a Parent Student Teacher Conference. A guide was emailed on Friday 3 June. If you have any difficulty making an appointment please contact Tina Thomas, our Senior School Office Manager, on 9783 7955 and she will be able to assist you.

Year 10 ‘Challenge Accepted’ Day

On Monday 25 July, Year 10 students will engage in a full day of learning and wellbeing workshops aimed at building personal resilience and developing strong values to empower students to reach their full potential.

'Challenge Accepted' will enable students to take on the opportunities presented throughout the rest of Year 10 and VCE. Year 10 students will walk away from 'Challenge Accepted' having further developed their resilience and acceptance, understanding of consent, and skills to support them through their educational journey.

The Year 10 Team is excited to be able to offer this fantastic opportunity. We are looking forward to the powerful learning that will come from the day.
