Junior School News

End Of Semester

Congratulations to our Year 7 students for completing a very successful first semester at Frankston High School and embracing so many opportunities within and beyond the classroom.

End of semester reports will be published today and can form the basis of meaningful reflection and goal-setting after two terms of learning at secondary school. Reports can be accessed via Compass and summarise students’ growth and achievements through:

  • An assessment of learning behaviours demonstrated in each subject, in line with our school values
  • Completion of learning outcomes
  • Achievement on Common Assessment Tasks (CATs) - tasks at the end of a sequence of learning that are common to all students in all classes across the subject
  • A comment about areas for continued growth and learning

After reading the report with your child, we encourage you to engage in a conversation to celebrate successes and identify areas for growth, considering what steps could be taken to work towards improvement. The aggregation of small, actionable steps can amount to massive progress over time (see the work of James Clear for more on this). If, from your discussion, your child can commit to one action they will take, they can start Semester 2 with a clear focus. Actions could include:

  • Asking one question per week
  • Reading for 10 minutes each night
  • Spending 5 minutes each night writing the following day’s classes in the student diary and checking for upcoming assessments
  • Choosing a club (e.g. Homework Club, Semper Squad, Chess Club) to attend in Term 3

Reminder: School Review Parent Survey - Closes Friday 24 June

Every four years, schools undertake a strategic review. Prior to this, the school engages the whole school community in a reflective analysis of the school’s performance. Frankston High School is currently in the process of conducting its pre-review self-evaluation before its review in Term 3, which will help to shape the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan. We are now inviting parents to provide feedback via a short survey, which can be accessed through Compass News Feed. The survey will be open until this Friday 24 June.
