Middle School
Grade 3 & 4
Inquiry learning is an integral focus at Weeden Heights and aims to actively engage students in the learning process. They are strongly encouraged to investigate a topic more deeply in order to learn from their own first-hand experiences and term two was certainly no exception!
Students have been working hard to further their knowledge about Australian history. They explored the effects of European settlement including the reasons behind the journey, and the conditions faced by those who set sail on the First Fleet. Students spent time learning about the lives of convicts and conducted an in depth research project on a self-selected subject related to the inquiry unit.
Across the middle school the level of excitement is currently palpable! Students are eagerly anticipating their upcoming excursion to Polly Woodside and Captain Cooks’ cottage to consolidate their learning. They will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the life of a sailor on board a 17th century ship, as well as explore what life was like for people living in the 1800s.
This week the grade three's enjoyed their reward of extra playtime after working so hard throughout the term!! Well done grade 3!
