Budja:

It was another wet and wintry week at kinder, what better time to make the most of the opportunity to continue to unpack winter!

The children have been fascinated by the change in season and have loved exploring this through interactions, experiences and play.

Last week we engaged in experiences that supported the development of planning and fine motor skills. Cutting snowflakes was an amazing opportunity to do both, the children had to fold, plan and then utilise their fine motor skills to cut small shapes out of the folded paper. They were so proud of their efforts and this also allowed for a growth mindset and perseverance skills to be established when edges were cut all the way through.

The week was also filled with visits to the school garden to source some aromatic plants to use in the outdoor kitchen, a birthday celebration and a lot of singing, dancing and games to make sure we stayed warm!

Marram:

It was another exciting week of learning at Kindergarten. We continued to focus on developing our self-regulation skills through dance and music activities. We used a simple ball of wool to demonstrate a powerful message of how our behaviour affects others in the group. We followed the children's current interests and turned our home corner into a busy medical clinic! In their Mandarin class, the children enjoyed a yummy activity involving different fruits. Outdoors, our fort is still hugely popular and the mud kitchen is a hive of activity. They provide plenty of opportunities to practice important social skills such as sharing and turn-taking. Thank you to our families, as always, for supporting our program, whether it be through coming along to our Stay and Play sessions, contributing materials for our children to use in class, sending children to kindergarten with fruit for our afternoon tea, or feedback on the Seesaw app. We hope everyone had a relaxing, long weekend.

Gawarn:

The Gawarn children showed great engagement in all the experiences throughout the week. They were empowered to make their own choices in the flexible routine to develop autonomy and build a good relationship with educators. We sang BINGO to develop their understandings of patterns in rhythm and their awareness of the sound of letters. We played the circle game and enjoyed songs with movements to develop their self-regulation in improving impulse control. They were invited to sign in their names in the sign in sheet to strengthen their finger muscles and develop alphabet awareness. The highlight of week was seeing the children reflect on their behaviours and environment at the end of each day and to be able to identify helpful and unhelpful choices.

Wimbi and Dharug:

It was a great week exploring lots of experiences in a supported social and physical environment. The children developed their own interests in using play to interact with the environment while investigating their ideas throughout the day.

The children were introduced to a well-known book called the “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” in a group. With support, they took turns placing the right quantity of foods for each day on the wall. Throughout the experience, they were developing early numeracy and literacy concepts in connecting one-to-one correspondence counting and text awareness; also, it broadened their understanding of the world they live in by exploring the caterpillar's life cycle.
