Term 2 Week 8

Feature News - Indonesian

Selamat Siang!

As we come to the last few weeks of term, specialist classes begin to look ahead to what’s happening the next term and begin to plan our units based on Student Voice. In Indonesian, students have been suggesting a wide variety of units and topics they would like to learn in Term Three, and then classes have been voting on these ideas. Once all votes are in, students find out what their topics will be!

In fact, previous suggestions have formed the mini-units students have been doing in these last few weeks of term!

  • In 5/6, students requested to use their cooking skills gained from Kitchen/Garden program to do some cooking. They were able to research a variety of Indonesian recipes that were possible during our lesson time and have chosen some favourites - klepon and dadar gulung. You may have heard of these from previous years’ Indonesian Days!
  • In 3/4, students have been learning about the process and having a go at making their own batik! These take time and patience, as designs are created, painted with a wax resist and then dyed. A popular art style in Indonesia, batik is a patterned piece of material - students will be bringing these home over the next few weeks.
  • In 1/2, students have begun learning about the phenomenal birds of paradise or Cendrawasih. These extraordinary birds have incredible feathers and features, which the students were inspired by to make their own designs.
  • In Foundation, students have been busy learning and practising their numbers in Indonesian. They are able to count from 1-10, sing and act out actions and enjoyed reading the story of Ulat Sangat Lapar, perhaps better known as The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Community Connections

Indonesian Day draws ever closer as we creep towards Term Three! If there are any parents or community members who would like to participate or help run an activity, please contact me via Sentral!

Next term our Kitchen/Garden program swaps over - this means that Juniors will begin cooking and our Seniors will begin gardening! If you would like to help participate and support these programs, no knowledge of gardening is necessary!

Terima kasih,

Bu Mundy
