Independence Centre

Curriculum

Selamat siang Independence Centre families!

Last week was a short week full of amazing learning opportunities and projects that will continue through to this week as students apply their knowledge in different areas!

In Reading, students continued finding information in texts as they identified key words and phrases and responded to a range of literal and inferential questions. In Writing, students worked diligently to create their written portion of their presentation. They considered text features of informative texts including evidence, anecdotes and subheadings to organise their information. We are very proud of the Independence Centre students as they focused on providing and responding to constructive peer feedback! This week, they will continue this writing piece to create presentations on their Guided Inquiry explorers.

In Maths, students have started their mapping projects where they were challenged to create a map including map features such as a title, key, coordinates and locations. It was wonderful seeing students use initiative to achieve their own personal mapping goals which included using coordinate planes, angles and symbols. This week, students will be continuing their maps which include using directional language and accurate scales.

In Wellbeing, students created their own ‘how to’ videos and posters on keeping calm and strategies to support Junior students in their Zones of Regulation. It was engaging to see the different strategies including reading a book, going for a walk or run and mindful drawing and colouring.

Have a wonderful week,

Miss Chooi, Miss Richardson, Miss Wang, Mrs McCoy, Miss Tillotson and Miss Honan
