NAIDOC Week is a time to reflect and celebrate the history, culture, significance and achievements of First Nation Peoples – recognising them as the Traditional Owners of the land.

NAIDOC Week is a time when we celebrate and proudly support First Nation Peoples and their culture by showcasing the richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to education and the wider community.

As Term3 began with NADIOC Week, our students were made aware of the relevance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people - their history and culture. Students were encouraged to choose any activity reverent to NADIOC Week and apply their drawing and colouring skills in conjunction to commemorating the importance of the week. Student work will be showcased in their Visual diaries to retell and discuss with their family members.

In Term 3 Prep-4 will be looking into the history, artworks, skills and techniques of different artists. Students will be encouraged to apply their learnt understanding into their own artworks.

The year 2 students have started a new unit studying Australian Artists and colour use. They have begun by brainstorming what they know about primary colours and discussed how to mix colours. They tested out common colour combinations using paint and cotton buds and experimented with their own ideas too and tried to think of a name to describe their new colour.
