Principal News

Welcome back to the start of another exciting and eventful term for our students, staff and school community. The students have settled back into school really well, as they always do! We hope that everyone had a relaxing break and are looking forward to all of the learning opportunities Term 3 brings.

Farewell to Ms Meagher

We would like to inform our school community that Keda Meagher will be taking indefinite leave as of Friday 29 July. We wish her all the very best on her leave and thank her for all the contributions she has made to the Brookside College community over the past 3 years.

Farewell to Donna Toffolon

We would also like to acknowledge and farewell Donna who has finished up her time with us at Brookside. Donna has been a wonderful asset to our ES team over the years and we wish her every bit of happiness for the future.

Natalie Veitch will also be taking leave for the remainder the year. We wish her all the very best.

Welcome to Brookside College

We welcome the following staff members to Brookside this term. Melissa Bowker (6D), Amanda Axiak (2C) and Nora El Tonsi (Maths/Science 7-9). We are thrilled to have you all join our Brookside Community.

Congratulations to Liam Ryan and partner Cath

On behalf of the school community, we would like to congratulate Mr Ryan and his partner Cath on the birth of their baby boy Patrick. We are thrilled for them both and wish them all the very best for the wonderful years ahead.

100 Days of Learning in Prep!

On Friday 29 July our Prep students will celebrate 100 consecutive days of learning! On this day students will participate in fun rotational activities based around the number 100 - they will make crowns, complete Seesaw tasks, listen to a 100s day story, and get active in celebrating 100 days of school. A massive congratulations to our Prep students and staff, we hope you enjoy celebrating this special milestone.

Year 7 Camp

During the last week of Term 2 our Year 7 students had an incredible time attending their Camp at Lake Dewar. Students were able to experience various outdoor education activities such as mountain bike riding, flying fox, hiking, canoeing and many more. All students who attended are to be congratulated for their behaviour and the way they represented our college in the community. A massive thank you to all of the staff who attended the camp and a special mention to Mr Ryan for his organisation of the event.

Uniform

Students and parents are reminded that all students are required to wear the full school uniform each day, in accordance with the College Uniform Policy. We are seeing an increased number of students attending school in black tracksuit pants, runners and hoodies under school uniforms. Students in P-6 are required to wear blue trackpants, as are students in Years 7-9 on PE days. On non-PE days students in Years 7-9 are required to be in full academic uniform. We ask parents to please enforce this expectation at home.

Brookside P-9 College is currently accepting enrolments for Prep 2023

We are currently accepting enrolments for Prep 2023, and we encourage parents with younger children at home (who will be of school age in 2023) to collect and return an enrolment form to Reception as soon as possible.

The importance of home reading

Face Masks

The Victorian Department of Health strongly recommends that face masks are worn in indoor settings. As a result, all students aged 8 and over and all staff in all schools across Victoria are encouraged to wear masks when in class (except where removing a mask is necessary for clear communication) from now to the end of winter. Students won’t be required or expected to wear masks when outdoors, and this expectation won’t stop student participation in the full range of school activities, including music, sport and performances.

Your support in explaining to your child or children the importance of this simple step will help keep schools as safe as possible. We also ask that you make sure your child (or children) takes a mask to school and wears it if they are travelling on public transport, or collects a mask when they arrive at school.

We all appreciate how important it is for students to be back at school. This action will help make sure as many students and staff as possible are protected from COVID and other winter illness. Thank for your help with this collective effort to keep our communities safe and healthy.

Years 8 & 9 2023 School Intentions

We ask that all parents of current Year 7 and Year 8 students please fill out the form posted on Compass to indicate their schooling intentions for the 2023 school year. By completing this form, you are providing Brookside P-9 College with information that will allow us to work with parents and carers to support students to transition seamlessly into next year, both within and external to the college. This includes giving us the best opportunity to create classes using the most accurate and up-to-date information.

If you intend to withdraw your child from Brookside P-9 College, we ask that you obtain and complete an official exit form from the school office in addition to submitting this form.

Intention forms are required to be completed online via the following link:

https://forms.office.com/r/5jt8eJ30rF  by Friday 2nd September 2022.
