Year 12 PJ Day
Year 12 PJ day was a fun and enjoyable day for everyone, and everyone can agree that it was a great and timely way to take a break from all the tiresome and stressful practice exams and SACS during this busy time of the year.
We saw fantastic involvement through so many of our year 12s coming in with their pyjamas, oodies and onesies. All the money raised through the gold donations will be sent to The Pjyama Foundation, which is an organization that funds for children in foster care, providing the opportunity for foster children with learning skills and resources. We would like to extend a big thank you to all the students who donated and gave their best efforts during the planned activities.
We would also like to thank Ms Massarotto, Mr Laganga and Ms Watkins for their hard work in organizing the day, especially the breakfast BBQ which was for sure a highlight of the year 12s’ mornings.
After the breakfast, the year 12 students went to the space, where former students of Taylors Lakes came in and shared insight into their life after graduation. Students were given the opportunities to ask questions about university processes and the different pathways available, and we are grateful that they took the time to come in for a chat to help us give a better understanding of what life may look like for us after finishing school.
After recess, the students were then divided into their homegroups and did rotational activities and workshops. As a leadership team it was an amazingly engaging and interesting experience to be able to organize activities ourselves for the entire year 12 cohort. Not only did we get a chance to implement student-conducted activities based on the interests of our cohort but we also got to grow closer with our peers whilst improving team building skills. Trivia evidently worked really well considering the competitive nature of our year level and dodgeball also worked well, allowing everyone to have fun since not many of us have played it for a while.
We were also really fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet guest speakers from Beyond Blue, and Gambling Education, to teach us about wellbeing and gambling addictions. An entrepreneur who became a spokesperson for Beyond Blue, discussed her journey living with anxiety and taught us ways to cope with it. Her story was very encouraging, as it demonstrated that people can still succeed and achieve their goals in life by controlling their mental disorder, not letting it control them. After that, Ian Feretter, from Gambling Education came in to talk about the ramifications of gambling, also teaching us the methods of safe gambling.
Overall it was a very relaxing, memorable and fun day with lots of photos taken too, so thank you once again to all students, leaders and teachers that made this day work!
