Year 11 Homegroup Day

On the 15th of June, year 11 students were lucky enough have a homegroup day, which involved having multiple guest speakers come to provide an informative presentation about a variety of issues. We started the day with Anthony from Spinchat, who shared his own experiences with a spinal cord injury. Anthony was able to give us an insight into life with a disability and the impact it can have on someone’s life. He also left us with an important belief, “to live your life to the fullest”. Then we had Ian from Gamblers Help, who provided us with many laughs and fashion advice whilst also educating us on the harms and risks that comes with gambling.

In addition, Tony from Beyond Blue discussed his own life and the impacts of mental health on a person, family and friends, and spoke about the importance of helping others and self-care. Finally, we had our own wellbeing team, Jen and Bailey who provided us with an interactive group discussion where we were all able to learn about the importance of boundaries and consent in relationships.

To end the day we all enjoyed playing trivia, which allowed the opportunity to bond as a year level as well as partake in some friendly competition.

Overall it was a fun day that provided us all with many laughs and memories, and we would like to thank Mrs Tarquinio and Mr Hudson for running the event, as well as providing us a pizza lunch for our great participation throughout the day.

Year 11 Road Safety Program

The RYDA road safety excursion featured a highly engaging and memorable one-day workshop which built on our understanding of road safety and gave us the tools, habits, and motivation to take action in relation to staying safe on roads as both drivers and passengers throughout our lives.

The RYDA workshop involved practical demonstrations, real-life narratives, videos, quizzes, and interactive role play. Through these activities we gained an understanding on the relationship between speed and stopping distance, the perspective of other road users and the challenges they may face, analysing risky situations and how to speak up, swift decision-making, the life altering consequences of high impact crashes, as well as the effects that mood/mindset can have on driving.

Overall, it was a worthwhile experience for all students, and I believe that there was at least one thing that all of us could take home and apply to our own lives when on the roads.
