ACMI Screen Writers Workshop

Screen Writing Workshop - ACMI

On the 27th of May, a group of students travelled into the city with Mr  O’Leary to take part in the Writing for the Screen Workshop.

They were involved in building ideas and developing their writing skills with the idea of potentially creating films, plays and other visual performances. These are some comments from the students who attended:

The staff members gave us a presentation on how we can get better at making up a story. We got to look at different images then make stories out of them and use different strategies.  There were helpful things we learned and overall interesting concepts. The excursion was really fun and enjoyable.

The writing for the screen excursion was very informational and fun. Throughout the day, we did different workshops and methods to get ideas and to get us started on writing a script for a short film. We formed ideas, characters, plotlines and started on a short script during the day. Overall, the day was entertaining as well as informational.

The AMCI writing excursion is aimed at anybody who enjoys English, wants to improve their writing, or simply would like to experience something new. The excursion provides the opportunity to cooperate, brainstorm, compose, and analyse writing in an engaging, exciting approach that can help strengthen essential skills. I am excited to incorporate what I have learned from this great experience into my future writing. Overall, I am grateful for the opportunity to participate, and I would recommend it.

At the ACMI excursion the workers were showing us how we can write stories and come up with ideas from images and showing us different ways to structure stories.

I believe that it was definitely worth travelling to the city with friends and going into the ACMI building itself! Multiple schools across Victoria visited the same time as us, and it was a great opportunity to hear and share ideas with other writers as well! It was also interesting to learn about the ideas my friend, Stephanie, came up with as well. I was able to gather new ideas that I may use for future stories and narratives that I will write. I would definitely recommend it to those whose passions and interests are writing and storytelling. You will pick up so many helpful skills throughout the excursion. I use a few of them myself!
