Principal's News

'Human greatness does not lie in wealth or power, but in character and goodness.'

Anne Frank

Dear Families

We are nearly at the end of Term 2. It is the shortest term of the school year and boy have we achieved so much! From special days such as Cross Country, celebrating our Feast Day, our lovely Mother's Day gathering, to our intensive swimming programs, Confirmation, Reconciliation, First Aid in Schools, sports days, excursions and let's not forget our core business of learning and teaching.

We have also continued to navigate our way through the implications of COVID and the cold and flu season, which has heavily impacted student attendance and staffing throughout the term. We have appreciated your continued vigilance in this area to help keep our community safe and healthy.

A FEW UPDATES:

Fundraiser for Lismore

Last Friday we had a free dress fundraiser day to raise monies for the impacted Catholic schools in the Lismore region in NSW. Our families donated approximately $250 and as a school we will match that to make a total of $500 from Fatima. This donation will be greatly appreciated and go towards rebuilding communities.

Padua Rosebud Visit

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of visiting Padua College Junior Campus in Rosebud. Monica O'Shannassy, principal at St Joseph's Sorrento and I were invited for a tour as new principal's to the area.  Campus Co-Directors Phill Helisma and Jim Baird warmly welcomed us to the homely and peaceful environment. It was great to learn more about our main feeder school and discuss ways we can continue to strengthen the partnerships.

Parent / Carer helpers

A big, big shout out to our amazing family members who have supported us with being a helper for swimming and running the school canteen. These two events cannot run without you. You are absolute superstars!

Reports

Next Thursday our students will receive their Semester 1 reports. These will be sent home in a sealed envelope.

Student-Led Conferences

In Week 1 of Term 3 we have our Student-led conferences. A Skoolbag notice will be published next week to explain the process and book in a time. These will take place over two days, Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th July. Please note that school will finish at 1pm on the Wednesday.

School Closure Day

Please schedule in your diary that we have a School Closure Day on Friday 12th August.

Timetable

Next term, there will be some improvements to our school timetable. Our recess and lunchtime will change to two 40 minute breaks instead of a 30 and 50 minute break. As you know classrooms are open from 8.45am. The music will now go at 8.50am, instead of 8.58am. This music will indicate to students that it is time to head inside the classroom independently to get ready to learn.

Year 6 Staff Buddy lunch

Next week our Year 6 students will enjoy a special lunch with their staff buddy. This is a dedicated time to connect by having dedicated time to sit down and enjoy some food over lunch which will be provided. The staff member will let their buddy know what day this will be occuring on.

Enjoy the upcoming school holidays everyone, I hope they provide you and your loved ones with much rest and rejuvenation.

Go gently

Sarah McDermott :)
