Dance News – Term 2 2022
Our very talented Year 11 and 12 HSC dance students are working hard in rehearsals toward their Practical HSC Examination which occurred in Weeks 4 and 5, Term 3.
One component of this exam was a presentation of their own choreography, and they were given an opportunity to present their work to parents and friends before the exam at an HSC Dance Showcase Evening. This event will be held at school on Wednesday, 20th of July - venue to be confirmed due to maintenance work.
The Year 7 Dance Ensemble have shown a fantastic commitment to attending Tuesday morning classes. Here they have been learning Contemporary and Jazz dance technique and are currently working on a performance piece to be presented later in the year at MADD NIGHT.
Our Dance Company, which consists of students from years 8 to 10, has been successful in their audition for this year’s ‘In the Spotlight Dance Festival’ which is held at the Seymour Centre. Canterbury Girls’ have been involved in this regional festival every year for the last 13 years and they will perform in a program which showcases dance items from many other public schools in our region. The students will be performing on Wednesday, 22nd June in program 9. Tickets can be purchased through the Seymour Centre Box Office.

YEAR 11 DRAMA – Presents FANGALS
Featuring Year 11 Drama & supported by Year 8 Drama Ensemble ‘Fangals’ present excerpts from Yve Blake’s hilarious musical Fangirls.
Meet Edna: she’s 14, … she’s in love. With Harry. There’s just one problem: Harry doesn’t actually know that she exists. Because Harry is in the world’s biggest boy band, True Connection. When True Connection announces a tour stop in Edna’s city, she realises that this is her one chance to meet Harry and convince him of their destiny
This work has been the focus of Term 2 for these students as they have worked to create, produce and present their interpretation of ideas from this work. Performed in the MPC at 6.30pm on the 23rd of June and in a school performance before a Year Eight audience it is designed to reflect upon what it means to be ‘in love’ and to recognise the importance of connection in our world. Congratulations to the Year 11 Ensemble. Their ability to present and produce so much in such a short amount of time has been inspiring,

The Dome best in Nature - Year 9 Photography and Digital Media 2022
Photography Capture Nature! This semester we have been looking into the topic called “Best in Nature”. This topic covered the beauty, and the true essence of what nature is all about. Our year 9 photographers have been capturing some of nature's amazing soul and meaning around our school. We enjoyed this topic very much as nature is always breathtaking.

Year 10 Child Studies
Students have been learning about the importance of The Dreaming and the use of symbols to tell indigenous stories. Based on this knowledge, students designed their own children's story book.
To celebrate NAIDOC week, some of the story books have been placed on display in the library. I hope that students will take the opportunity to read a story or two as they enjoy the warmth and comfort of the school library during their breaks.

Creating the abomination
When making this problem, we first wrote down all of the angle relationships that we needed to use in one question. Due to the fact that we only had 3 people and weren’t bothered separating in 2 groups to do 2 or 3 questions, we did just one question. In this one question, there were 7 angle relationships. First we thought about what would be the easiest angle that we could branch off too, to create more angles, we thought of two intersecting lines. We have our intersecting lines and the angle relationships, that we could easily see were the complementary, supplementary angles and angles at a point, so we labelled that and we added the answers to our solution sheet with geometric reasoning. Although sometimes we got stuck on where to put in the angle relationships we knew we could just make new lines to create angles. After a few attempts and adjustments, we were able to make it work properly and according to Mr Trinh the hardest part about this question wasn’t figuring out the equation, but trying to find the letters for the angles.

Year 11 English
In Term 2, Year 11 Standard English completed their own digital narratives. Their digital narratives had to portray a story about overcoming adversity and combine written text, images and sound. These are some standouts from a very impressive group!
