Out Of School Hours Care

OSHC News
OSHC News Wednesday 14th September 2016- Week 6 & Wk 7
Program: Week 6- was the last week of Olympic celebrations at OSHC. Again we focused on Games orientated characteristics, with play and activities revolving around inclusion, communication and fair competition.
With the games ending the week prior, we could no longer watch the games on TV, but that didn’t stop the Olympic spirit from living on in the OSHC community. The children created Australian coat of arms, Chinese lanterns and European cathedral windows as well as drawing their favourite African animal and Team USA uniforms.
One afternoon saw the OSHC kitchen transform into a laboratory, as some mad scientists experimented with buoyancy. They tested dropping whole eggs into a water filled container to see if it would float. They tried again after adding salt to the water. The results… you’ll have to find out for yourself!
Week 7- What beautiful sunny weather we had to kick-start our new ‘Spring’ focussed program this week. The warmer weather allowed children to play outdoors in both the mornings and the afternoons encouraging active and team play.
The beginning of the new program resulted in enthusiastic painters, creators and thinkers. A variety of different materials were incorporated into art and craft activities such as pasta, patty pans, paints and pipe cleaners. The opportunity to create different textured and coloured art enabled children to build on program ideas and create pieces of their own.
OSHC Technology equipment: A new rule has been implemented at OSHC where laptops and iPads can only be used one day a week. This day will rotate each week to allow all children an opportunity to play on our devices. The laptops and iPads can be accessed during homework time (5pm-5:30pm Tues-Thurs) for homework use only. The implementation of this new rule has seen a larger number of children engaging in group play, outdoor activities and art and crafts.
Pupil Free Day: As you are aware we have a pupil free day on Friday 23rd September 2016. Unfortunately the service will not be operating due to lack of interest.
Personal devices: Just a small reminder to parents that children are not allowed to play on their personal devices. They are more than welcome to play on the laptops, iPads and PlayStation that the service provides.
OSHC Garden: The OSHC garden again provided the community with some fresh, crisp vegetables for the children to enjoy. The warmer weather means watering is of high importance for the growth of the garden, and the children are more than happy to contribute to ensure its success. This week it provided us with broccoli, yum!
As we have added a compost bin to our OSHC garden can we please encourage children to be mindful and respectful of OSHC property and discourage turning, playing or touching the compost bin during recess and lunch times.
October Vacation Care Program: Come along and join in the fun! If you wish to attend, be quick so you don’t miss out! Vacation Care Booklets are available from the OSHC room, front office, attached below or online on the LNPS website.
QIP: As part of our Quality Improvement Plan we are constantly reviewing our service and thinking of different ways to improve, change or extend upon our ideas/ facilities etc. If you have any ideas or feedback please feel free to communicate these with an educator or the Director.
Students Punctuality at OSHC: Please remind and discuss with your child/ children the importance of arriving at the OSHC room on time straight after school. This is a safety issue. If children don't arrive at the OSHC room within 5-10minutes of the 3:10pm bell going we must begin searching the school for them, this takes away much needed time with the children.
Emails: Emails to the Director will be only attended between the hours of 8.00am- 4.00pm on Monday to Friday. If the matter is urgent please contact the service between 7am-6.00pm on 8443 5308 or 0411 236 014.
OSHC Payments: The service has received payments of EFT into the OSHC/VAC CARE account with no reference name. We ask those parents who use this method of payment to check their invoice. If you noticed that your payment hasn’t come thought on your invoice, please contact the Director on 0411 236 014 or 8443 5308. Please ensure you are writing your name or your child’s name as the reference.
Yearly Permanent booking forms 2016: Parents, please be aware that our permanent booking forms are for the year, which means sessions from Term 2, will roll over to Term 3! There is no need to fill out another form unless you need to change days/sessions or cancel care. Forms can be collected from the OSHC room, front office or online on the LNPS websites.
Cancellation forms: A friendly reminder to all parents/caregivers, when cancelling a session two weeks written notice is required, a cancellation form can be obtained from the OSHC room and given to an educator or the Director.
