Capital Works - Kildare Campus

Building Works Update

We received an update on works from our building contractor last week and it is looking highly likely that next year's group of Year 7 students will begin the 2023 school year at our Brigidine Campus (Dickson St, Echuca) and transition to the new Kildare Campus at the beginning of Term 2.

Construction works have been delayed by several weeks due to wet weather and to building material supply issues. While the contractor is now looking at an end of February completion date, we will plan for an end of Term 1 finish to be on the safe side. This means we are planning for Year 7s to commence on the new site at the beginning of Term 2.

The building industry is under enormous pressure in the current climate, and these supply issues are affecting all school builds right across the country. This is not a situation unique to us here in Echuca.

This change in timeline provides us with a strong opportunity to fully immerse and enculturate our 2023 Year 7 students in the 136-year-old story of St Joseph’s College, ensuring they move in to the beautiful new space at Kildare Campus in Term 2 with a true sense of place and purpose. It will also allow our Year 12 students, and other senior year levels, to play a significant role in mentoring and welcoming our younger students into the St Joseph's way of life when they start with us in Term 1.

Despite the delay to our schedule, site works at Mt Terrick Rd are progressing well and our new campus is really starting to take shape.

Furniture and sheds for the new campus have been ordered, and we are deep in discussions right now regarding ICT infrastructure, town bus planning, the structure of LMs, and timetabling. We are also investigating the best options for a covered outdoor learning area, some green spaces for passive recreation, and the possibility of outdoor exercise equipment. In other developments, we have secured a shuttle bus that will run during the day between the two campuses.
