Dress Down for ACRATH

On Friday 5 August, the year 12 student leaders invited our school to take part in ‘Dress Down for ACRATH’ Day.

ACRATH stands for the Australian Catholic Religious Against Trafficking in Humans and they have continually worked to eliminate human trafficking in Australia and globally since 2005.

This year World Day Against Trafficking in Humans was on 30 July, and in order to create a day of awareness and solitude, we asked students to ‘dress down’ in comfortable clothes and ask themselves; ‘how comfortable am I with the existence of Human Trafficking and Modern-Day Slavery?’

In honour of the United Nations theme for the day, ‘The Blue Heart Campaign’, students signed their names in solidarity with human trafficking victims and advocates on a bright blue heart.

The blue heart is a symbol for the sadness of those who are trafficked, whilst reminding us of the cold-heartedness of those who buy and sell fellow human beings.

The day aimed to educate our community in the violation of human rights that is still perpetuated today and offer an opportunity for students to signify their solitude with all victims of human trafficking.

We thank all those who got involved on the day and helped make it possible.
