Athletics Trials

The athletics trials were very fun. Year 3, 4, 5, and 6 came and did different events. There was long jump, triple jump, 100m sprint, 200m sprint, discus, shot put, and at the end of the day there was a relay. All of the students from years 3 to 6 had a chance to try out for every event. Everyone had a great time with lots of ribbons won. Most people tried every event and most were successful which means they get an opportunity to represent St Mary’s at Interschool Team.  Interschool Athletics are on Tuesday the 30 August. Everyone enjoyed the whole sports day and can’t wait for next Tuesday! Isla Feldman Year 5

Rugby

Students have had the opportunity over the past two weeks to engage in Rugby skills and games. Coaches from the NRL came out and demonstrated passing, catching and scoring tries. We were also able to use feedback to improve coordination when performing different skills.

The Year 5 & 6 students will have the opportunity to use these skills and knowledge in games during the Rugby Gala Day in week 9. We wish those students the best of luck at the tournament.

Rugby was so much fun, we got to practise passing and getting a TRY. We got to work on running through cones to work on zig zagging. We did relay races with our teams and the winning teams got a surprise like caps and lanyards. We had the ball and each cone you got too, you touched the ball onto the top of the cone and you had to run back as fast as you could to your partner. The passing and scoring a try was the most fun bit. We also liked ‘sleepy heads’ where you had to clap and catch the ball, if you didn't do both at the same time you were out. We had lots of fun, thanks Ms Jones. - Year Ones.

This week we learnt some drills in Rugby. It was so much fun learning new things like how to hold the ball and pass it. We practiced holding the ball with a ‘hamburger’ grip. That made us hungry! We had lots of fun passing and catching and working as a team! - Year Threes
