Year 11- Biology Excursion
The Zoo Education Program at the Melbourne Zoo
On the 31st of August Year 11 Biology students travelled by train to Melbourne Zoo as part of their Unit 2 course.
They participated in the Zoo Education Program - Adaptations for Survival. There they investigated the Corrobboree Frog and learnt about the challenges this species faces, and what is being done to stop this species from extinction. This led to deep discussion about the bioethics involved in conservation programs such as this.
The second part of the education program was about animal adaptations. They collected data in the Butterfly House by observing and recording difference species' preferences of the different coloured butterfly feeders. They will use this primary data in their Unit 2, Area of Study 2 SAC next week.
As well as lots of learning and study, they got some free time to explore Melbourne Zoo and the amazing animals and to eat some lunch in the sunshine!
I want to thank my Biology students for their fantastic participation in the program and lovely positivity on the day - it was a very early start and a lot of walking, and all I saw all day were smiles.
