EAL Reflections:
Rokaya
’In year 8 EAL, our teacher taught us how to write procedural texts. We learnt how to write different types of procedural texts, like recipes, how to make things and how to create a brochure. We learnt this to practise our speaking and listening skills and our writing skills.
I taught the class how to make a Zaatar Sandwich with Lebanese bread. I picked this activity because I wanted to share one of my cultural foods with the class.
During my presentation, I felt happy that I was teaching the class how to make a Zaatar Sandwich.
The class was happy as I could see the smile on their faces while eating.
From the other students’ presentations, I learnt:
I learnt how to play basketball.
How to make fairy bread.
How to make a lazy cake.’

‘I taught the class how to make Fairy Bread. Two of the students in the class have never heard or tasted fairy bread so it was great to teach the class the how make this dessert. The class got a chance to taste the fairy bread we made. I was glad I taught the class how to prepare this dessert. ‘

‘I taught the class how to play NBA 2k22. I did this by putting on a YouTube clip that explained how to play this game. I then read the steps of how to play the game to the class. I learnt that with procedural writing, we need to have a title, a material listed and steps on the ‘how to’ for the audience to read and follow.’
