La Trobe Parent Information Session – Wednesday 14 September at 6pm

Choosing a university can be one of the biggest decisions your child will make in their life journey, and they’ll need your support. La Trobe is here to guide you through the VTAC application process and the opportunities available for your child to advance their skills through La Trobe and beyond. In this webinar La Trobe will demystify the university application process and explain options like SEAS, scholarships and pathways. You’ll learn about the difference between terminologies, like the minimum ATAR and minimum selection rank, or how change of preference works and whether there are alternative options to their dream course. ACU Elite Athlete and Performer Program applications open

ACU knows it can be difficult to balance university study, training and performing. That’s why their elite athletes and performers have access to the Elite Athlete and Performer Program (EAPP) that provides a range of benefits and support to help balance students’ academic and active lives. These benefits include:

  • adjustment factors to your score
  • priority class allocation
  • academic support and flexibility
  • access to financial scholarships and competition/travel grants
  • networking and career development opportunities

Co-op Scholarships for 2023 entry

Go to what you need to know about Co-op scholarships to find out what they are, who can apply and answers to FAQs. Then refer to the below guide listing co-op scholarships in Australia for students starting tertiary study in 2023 and take note that some of these applications close in September. Co-op scholarships are generally open to high achievers but even if you’re not sure this is you they are worth checking as merit isn’t just given for high academic results.

Updates from Carlton College of Sport (CCoS)

To help students understand the opportunities available to them beyond the Carlton College of Sport, they have created a document detailing some of the pathways available – to view the student pathways from CCoS click here. They are also offering opportunities for prospective students to find out more about their courses, facilities, placements and more. Any interested students are encouraged to visit IKON park by attending an Open Day or Campus Tour and if visiting is not possible, you can book a 1:1 video call with CCoS staff – bookings for visits or calls can be done here

The Apprentice Expo 2022 – Tuesday 20 September at 5:30pm

An apprenticeship should be the start of a long and rewarding career in a trade or industry that you love. This expo will provide an excellent opportunity for young apprentices, aspiring apprentices and those interested in trades to learn about their workplace rights as an apprentice, where they can seek help if they are having issues as an apprentice, as well as providing an opportunity to connect with others in the apprenticeship space. The Apprentice Expo 2022 will be held at Victorian Trades Hall, 54 Victoria Street, Carlton and for more info about this event click here.

Monash Engineering Girls (MEG)* applications open to Year 9 students

Monash Engineering Girls (MEG) is an engagement program for young women keen to explore a career in engineering. If you’re a Year 9 student who likes maths and science, are creative, a problem solver, enjoy working in a team and designing things, engineering might be the perfect career choice for you. MEG will enable you to learn about the Faculty of Engineering with students joining the program in year 9 and staying through to year 12. Applications are now open for Year 9 students who’d like to be a MEG member. *MEG welcomes all women, trans and non-binary folks interested in our program. Find out more on the Monash University website here including how it works.

AYO National Music Camp Monday – 9 to 22 January 2023

The highlight of the year for many young Australian musicians, AYO National Music Camp is a whirlwind of new faces, exhilarating challenges and uplifting performances. Immerse yourself in a two-week musical experience. Be inspired by tutors, artists and conductors of international standing, and experience music-making at an elite national level as part of a superb symphony or chamber orchestra. Eligibility requirements: 

  • 14–22 years inclusive as at 1 January 2023
  • Minimum standard AMEB Grade 6 or equivalent
  • Open to all orchestral instruments including harp and piano

Indigenous Australian Engineering School (IAES) – 15 to 21 January 2023 

From 15-21 January 2023 the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney will host the Indigenous Australian Engineering School (IAES), funded by Engineering Aid Australia. The IAES Program gives 25 Indigenous high school students from NSW, VIC, ACT, TAS, QLD, NT and SA who are in years 10, 11 and 12 in 2023 the opportunity to come to Sydney and explore the possibilities of studying and working within various fields of engineering. 

The IAES program is fully sponsored with all activities, accommodation, flights and meals covered by Engineering Aid Australia and the University of Sydney. The week-long program will involve site visits to key Sydney locations, curriculum exercises and participation in cultural activities. Further highlights include networking opportunities with engineering industry representatives and recreational activities on Sydney Harbour. See the below IAES 2023 brochure for more information. Applications are made using this form and close 4 November 2022. Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander students with an aptitude in maths and science that are interested in engineering are encouraged to apply.
