Welcome to week 10!

Book Week

Book Week Reading Rotations - During Book Week, the 3-6 classes participated in Reading Rotations across four classes. In each class with a different teacher, they read a Shortlisted Book, then completed an activity related to the book.  One of those activities was about the book The Blue Flower. This beautiful book is about acknowledging the fact that we are all different and that is wonderful! Each child created their own face cut out, to decorate in their own individual way, to demonstrate how different and wonderful we all are.

Book Week Performance - We were lucky enough to have the theatre group Perform Education visit us last week and perform their show 'The Story Quest.'  It was a fun and interactive performance, highlighting some of the books we read during book week.

Hero Awards

Congratulations Seb, Alisha, Lexi, Jagger, Thomas and Olive for completing your hero award chart and earning your house colour more tokens to add to their tally.

Maths

We've been investigating the topic of Chance and Probability. Over the week we've learnt about the language of chance - likely, unlikely, equal, certain and impossible, and have been engaged in games like 'heads and tails' and 'rock, paper, scissors', which allowed us to make predictions about the likely combination of outcomes.

Additionally students made 10 colour spinners on PolyPad to represent different outcomes. For example, students needed to create a spinner that was likely to land on blue. This spinner may have a large section that was blue and smaller sections of different colours. Another spinner may have been unlikely to land on green. Students would then need to figure out how they could represent this spinner.

We then tested our spinners by spinning each one 20 times. We tallied the results and compared the prediction of the spinners to the result.

As the students were responsible for making their own spinners, the inconsistent outcomes brought about  the discussion of the sizes of each colour in the spinner. For example, if a spinner which was likely to land on blue had another colour that was similar in size to the blue, then the chances of the likeliness for it to land on blue may not be evident in the results.
