Prep

Dear Prep families,

We are at the end of Term 3! I am very proud of all the Prep students and how hard they have been working in all areas of their learning. It has been wonderful to see the progress they are making and to see their confidence growing and love for learning. Have a restful spring break and I look forward to seeing everyone after 2 weeks.

Literacy

This year's theme for book week is 'Dreaming with eyes open'. Books are beautiful tools to transport our imaginations to unique places and create beautiful characters. During our Book Week celebrations, we participated in a Book Week Parade, and it was lovely to see the Prep students dressed as their favourite book characters. The students listened to stories from the books nominated for awards, engaged in fun activities connected to the books and the Preps watched a live Story Quest performance. In writing, we are learning to apply strategies to write simple sentences that make sense. We are rereading sentences; does my sentence make sense and what is missing from the sentence, for example, a capital letter at the start of the sentence, finger space between words and a full stop.

Maths

In Maths, the Preps have had the opportunity to participate in addition and subtraction activities and use different strategies such as count on from the biggest number or count back from the biggest number on a number line and combining parts to make a whole number and partition a whole number to solve problems. In addition, the Preps have represented the problem in a variety of ways, for example in a drawing, using a ten frame, number line and writing the number sentence.

Education in Faith and Inquiry

Last week the Preps created their friendship chains. They reflected on the friendship qualities of Jesus and how he demonstrated these qualities to others. The students discussed their personal friendship qualities and how they show these qualities to others at school or at home. They then created friendship chains by writing the friendship qualities they demonstrate on a paper link and attaching the links together. At the end of the session, all the students stood in a circle and held the end of a friendship chain and they are going to work hard at being a friend like Jesus.
