P.E and Sport

Whole School Athletics

I wanted to take the opportunity to congratulate and thank all our incredible students for the outstanding way in which they participated in our Athletics Day.

After a false start due to heavy rain the week before, and a forecast that had many uncertainties, a marvelous (but very cold) day was had. The level of competition and enthusiasm was incredible to watch and our students showed many acts of resilience, determination and sportsmanship, something that our students are always known for.

These days would not be able to happen without the incredible support and help from our parent community. A very big thank-you to all the parents who came and supported, who shadowed groups, ran events and helped with the set-up and pack down. To our P & F, especially Sophie for the organisation of the sausage sizzle, Scotty and Greg for cooking the sausages for the students and Sorrento FC for the use of the BBQ.

We have 40 students representing St Joseph's at the District Athletics today. We wish them all the best.

Grade 5/6 Intensive Swimming

Last week our Grade 5/6 students participated in our intensive swimming program at Yawa Aquatic. The swimming program included activities to develop good water sense in some of the following swimming competencies:

  • Buoyancy Sculling and Body Orientation
  • Water Safety Survival techniques
  • Stroke Development
  • Competition Protocol
  • Correct Breathing Techniques

Throughout the week, we not only saw many areas of growth but many of our students showed self-determination and persistence.

Our swimming program is run by volunteer staff, who we can not be more thankful for. A VERY BIG THANK-YOU to Leonie and Bill (Jenny Todd's Dad) who gave up their time to support our students for the week. We would also like to thank Nat, Jenny and Jess who also assisted.

Prep Bike Education

On Monday our Prep students had their first lesson of Bike Education. The students began learning about safe riding behaviours, road rules and riding in a shared environment.

Prep- Year 2 Peninsula Basketball

This week our Prep-Year 2 students had their first coaching session with Peninsula Basketball coaches. Many of the students spoke about how excited they were to be involved and learn new skills.

Yr 3-6 Hookin2hockey

Throughout our last few P.E lessons our Yr 3 - 6 students have been involved in the  Hookin2hockey program. We were fortunate enough to buy all new hockey equipment which has allowed all our students to be involved in learning new hockey skills and playing modified fun games.

Jump Rope for Heart

Next week is our final week of the Jump Rope for Heart Program. I am extremely pleased to announce that St Joseph's has raised $1300. A big congratulations to all those students who signed up raised and donated money. Next Friday we will be concluding our program with a jump off.
