2019 Aboriginal STEM Congress

2019 Aboriginal STEM Congress

Astwan, Tatum, Hunter and Olivia were lucky enough to be selected to attend the STEM Congress. On Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th of May we went to the Aboriginal STEM Student Congress at the Adelaide Convention Centre in the city. It was a two day event and over 500 students attended from around the state.

On Monday, we went to the ceremony that officially opened the Congress. It included  welcome to country and traditional dances and movement. Then we got into our first workshop. We did storytelling through dance and movement. It was fun using different movements that were incorporating Australian animals. Our next workshop was about infrastructure. We had to use different pictures and designs and put them onto the buildings of our city. We enjoyed our lunch. Then we had Elder Time with Frank. He told us about some of his childhood. He was interesting to listen to.

On Tuesday we attended a workshop about networks and algebra. It was a hands on activity and the aim was to try to cross bridges without double crossing. There were many different ways of crossing the bridges. We had to work together to complete the activity. Then after lunch we had the opportunity to participate in an Artificial Intelligence workshop. For A.I, we learnt about machine learning and the possible benefits of using technology for everyday tasks. We also got to see a robot arm do some amazing drawings. At the end of our student congress we had a closing ceremony with “MC Finn” the d.j.

As a result, the Congress was exciting and we would all be more than happy to do it again. It was exciting and it was great to learn new skills in learning.
