School Council update

Happy Spring to everyone, we can't believe that term 3 is about to end.

Our sub-committees have heaps of updates.

Finance sub-committee presented fundraising and donation updates from recent events such as Trivia, Merch Fundraiser (the fabulous tea towels, aprons and more) and the continued donations to the building and library funds.  We have also received a DET Planned maintenance grant for roof repairs to both the school and cottage, this will be managed by the VSBA.

Our Fundraising sub-committee have a LOT on and welcome any new volunteers who would like to get involved with our upcoming School Fete.  We also have another election sausage sizzle to run so please keep an eye out for requests for volunteers.

Our Buildings and Grounds Sub Committee are coordinating a range of maintenance projects and are also exploring longer-term master planning.

Our Education & Policy sub-committee are monitoring the Annual Implementation Plan (AIP)  and updates included feedback regarding the ongoing student reporting via Seesaw, the feedback so far is excellent.   The full Strategic Plan and AIP is available on the website.  DET has updated the Child Safety Standards and this sub-committee will ensure that SKIPPS policies reflect DET’s at a minimum.  School Council received training on the new Child Safe Standards at our recent Council meeting.

The newest group, our Sustainability Team have also provided updates about a number of projects they are managing.  This includes a rubbish audit, nude food, tree planting, pollination hotels, compost bins and a range of other exciting plans to minimise and also enhance our environmental impact.

As mentioned in the last School Council report, School Council and the broader community are very opposed to the installation of the toilet block on Fitzroy St, close to the school entrance.  We will have a letter out to the school community by the end of term for you to use to send to local and state levels of government.

RAP Working Group - Reconciliation @ SKiPPS.  A reminder that our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is available on the website.  All students have been learning about our inaugural RAP as one of our RAP Actions is to embed this teaching into our curriculum.  Our school community is committed to learning about reconciliation in Australia. Having an understanding of the concept, history and progress of reconciliation is an important part of continuing the reconciliation journey. This understanding also helps to strengthen engagement with our school’s RAP by positioning it within the broader story of reconciliation in Australia.

If you are interested in becoming more involved in the life of the school and are interested in or have experience that would help one of the sub-committees, you are very welcome to come along and join a sub-committee or attend a Council meeting.

Best wishes

Hannah Lawson, SKiPPS Vice President
