Ms Brea Terris

Dear Families,

Welcome back to Term Four. I hope that everyone had a nice break over the school holidays.

It is hard to believe that we are beginning to talk about the end of the school year and plan for 2023.

We have attached the Term 4 calendar in the newsletter. There are lots of great things coming up to celebrate the students learning in 2022.

With the news that isolation rules will be further relaxed from October 14 it looks like Term 4 will bring us almost to the return of what we consider normal.

2/3E

Welcome to Tayla Bennett who will be working in 2/3E on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. T

ayla has been working at SHNPS on a Wednesday in a range of different classes. This term we are excited to have Tayla in 2/3E with Jess Grey.

Thank you to Tayla and Jess who have done an amazing job in ensuring the students have had a smooth transition with a new teacher.

Allergies

SHNPS has a number of students who have allergies to nuts and eggs . We ask where possible for families to consider not packing these items in lunch boxes. Thank you for your support with this.

North

North has been visiting SHNPS on a Tuesday and Thursday. The students are to be commended on the way they are working  with North. North is such a positive part of our whole school Wellbeing program and is making a difference working with a wide range of students. Thank you to Ms Kelly who is his carer and is training North. Keep an eye out for North's adventures on Facebook.

School Fete

Earlier in the year we had planned to run a Fete in November. After a discussion at School Council we have decided to postpone this event until 2023 due to a range of factors.

In place of this we have organised a chocolate fundraising drive and a Family Fun Night which will take place later in the year.

I appreciate the work that had already gone into this event and hope we can look at a date for 2023.

Athletics

Good luck to our students who are representing SHNPS at the Athletics Carnival in Bendigo on Monday.

Mobile Phone Policy

SHNPS understands that students may bring a personal mobile phone to school, particularly if they are travelling independently to and from school.

At SHNPS:

-Students who choose to bring mobile phones to school must have them switched off and securely stored during school hours

-Exceptions to this policy may be applied if certain conditions are met (see below for

further information)

-When emergencies occur, parents or carers should reach their child by calling the school’s office.

In accordance with the Department’s Mobile Phones — Student Use Policy issued by the Minister for Education, personal mobile phones must not be used during school hours, including lunchtime and recess, unless an exception has been granted.

Where a student has been granted an exception, the student must use their mobile phone for the purpose for which the exception was granted, and in a safe, ethical and responsible manner.

Mobile phones owned by students are considered valuable items and are brought to school at the owner’s (student’s or parent/carer’s) risk.

Students are encouraged not to bring a mobile phone to school unless there is a compelling reason to do so.

Mobile phones must be handed into the office each day where they will be placed in secure storage.

2023 Enrolments

If you haven’t yet enrolled your child/ren for 2023 we urge you to do so as soon as possible. Planning for 2023 is complex work which begins now. If you know of any families who would like a tour of the school, please encourage them to contact the office for book a personalised tour.

2023 Classes

At this time of year we begin to plan for 2023. If you have a wellbeing request for 2023 please address this to me in writing by Wednesday 12th October. Please note request for teachers will not be taken.

Similarly, if by chance you know that your circumstances will be changing in 2023 and you are leaving our school community, we would be so grateful if you could contact the office.

Have a nice weekend.

Kind regards,

Brea
