Bet Camp

What an action-packed couple of days it was on Bet camp!

Our trip to Monarto Safari Park started early on Thursday morning just gone.  We enjoyed a couple of stops along the way at some terrific adventure playgrounds.  Some thought the playgrounds themselves were enough of an attraction.  No need to go any further.  But we pressed on. As the bus rolled over the river at Murray Bridge all the 'oohs' and 'ahhs' and shouts of glee suggested we might be crossing over the Grand Canyon.  Yes, excitement levels were high.  We arrived at our destination around lunchtime primed for an epic overnight stay.

A tour of the safari park took us past some antelope dashing and dancing all over the place with an eager male in pursuit.  We saw large towers of giraffes loping around in their open fields - some real Jurassic Park feels going on there - as well as cheetahs, rhinos, some majestic lions and so much more.  We then had time to explore the Indaba bush camp before putting together a nest for our friendly chimp.   A delicious BBQ meal was followed by time around the campfire and a night walk - including a period of no torch time when we discovered our powers of nighttime vision.

We were up early in the morning for bacon and egg rolls followed by some lessons on being a zoo keeper.  We got our hands dirty cleaning up giraffe droppings (surprisingly fun) and then headed off to see the meerkats and chimps.  After some time in the gift shop it was time to head home.

Despite some time on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere waiting for the bus to clean its particulate filter, the trip home went smoothly.  We rolled into school a little later than planned on Friday evening but grateful for a fun-filled and life-shaping time away together.  Bet camp 2022 = great memories.
