MATHS TUTORING
Maths Tutoring runs every Wednesday from 3.30pm to 4.30pm in the Library. All students are welcome to attend and get some assistance with homework or classwork with the help of a Maths teacher and our Maths Assistant, whether attending for the entire hour, or just a few minutes.
CAS CALCULATORS
Students in Years 10 to 12 (with the exception of students studying Essential/Foundation Maths) must have a CAS calculator for Maths lessons. This calculator must remain charged and be brought to every class. Students can take their calculator to the library or the Maths office to be charged or they can charge at home using the USB cord that came with the calculators. Students must have their name on their calculators.

MATHS COMPETITIONS
The Mathematics Learning Area offer a number of competitions as extra-curricular activities throughout the year.
Computational and Algorithmic Thinking (CAT) Competition – Wednesday April 29
The CAT Competition is a one-hour problem solving competition that promotes multiple modes of thinking. No computer programming ability is necessary but the competition seeks to identify students with computer programming potential. Open to all students in Years 7 to 12.
Australian Mathematics Challenge for Young Australians (AMCYA) – four week period in Term 2
The Maths Challenge runs over four weeks and exposes students to difficult problems to develop their problem-solving skills. Students will be withdrawn from class for 1 period per week during the challenge but the majority of the challenge will need to be completed at home. Students are expected to catch up on the classwork they miss while participating in the challenge. Students can use resources to help them with the problems and can discuss the problems with fellow challengers but cannot receive help from anyone else, including their teacher or anyone contactable over the internet (e.g. forum). Open to all students in Years 7 to 10.
Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) – Thursday July 30
The Australian Mathematics Competition is an engaging 30 problem competition that demonstrates the importance and relevance of mathematics in students’ everyday lives. Open to all students in Years 7 to 12.
ICAS Mathematics Competition – Term 3, Week 8
The ICAS Mathematics Competition is a one-hour competition and is our most popular competition. The questions are based on the curriculum for the relevant year level. Students are asked to demonstrate a deeper, integrated and thorough level of learning. Open to all students in Years 7 to 12.
Students can enter the above competitions by emailing Miss Paget.
