Athletics

On March 1st the whole school athletics carnival was held at the Victoria University track. It was a strange day with a rainy morning and a beautiful sunny afternoon. All four houses bought their A game and it was very close throughout the day.  It was fantastic to see so many students participate in the 100m sprint there was ~640 students who received a point for their house in this event.

Blackwood and Cottrell were strong in the continuous relay, cheers and for supplying student helpers. Whereas Rothwell and Kororoit had some great individual talent on the track. Overall it was Kororoit who continued their winning streak and took the trophy. A big thanks to all the house captains, student helpers and staff for your help on the day. The students who won events in their age groups will be invited to compete in the Wyndham region athletics carnival on August 23rd. Well done everyone.

Wyndham Region Swimming

On the 27th of February, a number of Suzanne Cory High School students travelled to the Werribee Outdoor pool to compete in the Wyndham district swimming carnival. Unsurprisingly many of our students progressed to the next round, winning a majority of their races. All relay events were won by our students!

Overall it was an extremely enjoyable and memorable day where all students had a great time, performed well and showed great sportsmanship. We would also like to say a big thank-you to Ms. Breed, Mr. Wright and Mr. Vanwyk for accompanying the competitors and being there to support them all.

Cricket

This term there has been a lot of cricket.  Both the senior and intermediate boys teams competed at the Wyndham region round robin. Unfortunately the seniors lost but the intermediate team dominated winning the final by 100+ runs. Our senior girls team played a close game against Belmont High School in Geelong where they were unlucky and lost by 15 runs. Our intermediate girls team had no competition at the Wyndham region level so have automatically progressed to the Western Metropolitan region.  Both the intermediate boys and girls do not play until October so that give them plenty of time to train and refine their strategy. Well done to all the cricketers and thanks to Glen Stewart, Narelle Roberts, Cindy Sullivan and Laura Ruddick for coaching the teams.

Lawn bowls

All the lawn bowls that is included in the intra school program has paid off as we had 21 students compete on February 26th. Our students had a great day and although they did not progress to the state finals they showed good knowledge of the game and some skill. Thank you to Sandy Law who coached the students on the day. Hopefully in future years we can see some students competing at the state finals in lawn bowls.

Volleyball

This term we also had all our volleyball teams compete.  None of the teams progressed however Mr Hand and Mr Moden said there was a noticeable improvement from previous years.  Especially in the team work and communication on the court. Well done to the following students especially Aiko V for her positive feedback and Alex M for his enthusiasm. Hopefully with the volleyball included in the intra school program will help with future improvements.

Tennis

Once again Suzanne Cory has been successful in the Wyndham region tennis.  Our intermediate boys and senior girls dominated in the first round and will now play in the WMR competition in May. The intermediate girls had no one to play against this year which is disappointing but they have automatically progressed to the WMR.  The senior boys team just missed out on progressing after defeating Werribee but losing to Hoppers Crossing. Thank you to Amy Rashid and Michael Bourke for coaching these teams.

Golf

On Thursday 15th March two SCHS students had a tremendously successful day. Cameron T (Year 11) finished equal 2nd in the Senior Boys qualifying at +1 for the 9 holes (scratch score 37) and Izak W (Year 9) placing outright 2nd in the junior boys qualifying also at +1 (scratch score 37). Both students will move on to the state finals with Cameron at Metropolitan GC (senior boys) and Izak at Gardiner's Run GC (junior boys) in May.
