Around the School

Old Orchard's Chimp Champion !

Year 5 and 6 students had an incursion from Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots Australia. Asha M in Year 6 organised it and we asked students to bring a gold coin donation to sponsor a chimp. Students raised money and the school also contributed a donation to sponsor ‘Anzac’ for one year. The certificate and some information about him is below.

Old Shoes for Charity

Old Orchard Primary School is partnering with Outreach4Kids to help enable children in Kenya to have shoes to wear on what is often a very long walk to school.

Next time you are cleaning out your cupboards at home we would love it if you could bring any unwanted shoes to the office where we have collection bags for men's, women's and children's shoes.

These will then be sent to Kenya to help those less fortunate than us.

Plastic bottle tops and lids are one of the top polluters of the oceans and environment , with up to 2.5 times more than plastic bags  . They are eaten by birds and marine life in addition to   creating micro beads which enter the food chain and pollute our beaches .

With this project Grow With Joe , Envision  and Wyndham City Council aim to collect over 1,000,000

Yep that is ONE MILLION bottle tops from schools and community groups and people like you.

These  TWO MILLION bottle tops will be  collected and then recycled  into 3D printed hands , Disability Aids , STEM training tools and Aged Care gadgets.

Premiers' Reading Challenge Reminder

With the end of the Premiers' Reading Challenge only 1 week away (6th September), now is a great time to ensure our children have added enough books to complete the challenge. All students have been registered and are expected to participate.

Books enjoyed during class time have been added to each child's reading list by teachers while books enjoyed at home can be added by parents and students. Prep - Yr 2 students are expected to experience 30 books while our older Years 3 - 6 students are expected to read 15 books.

Please see your classroom teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

Happy reading!
