Attention All Readers!

School’s back, it’s 9am and we’re ready to read!

Reading is our passion at NPS; teachers and students alike share their love of reading with one another in our daily Reader’s Workshop sessions.

We learn how to use a variety of comprehension strategies, such as predicting what might happen next or summarising the text, and students have lots of time to practise these strategies while reading books they love.

In the Reader’s Workshop there’s also time for reading together and talking about texts. Kids gather in small groups to engage in Guided Reading, Book Clubs and Literature Circles to deepen their understanding of texts and improve their reading fluency.  The Reader’s Workshop finishes with a reflection time where students share their learning.

So, remember the words of Dr. Suess:

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” And we’re going far with our reading at NPS!
