Teacher Professional Development Day

On Friday June 1st, the staff participated in professional development around building a professional learning community and developing shared practice around the instruction of reading. Our instructional leaders, Shantelle Hives and Jenny Sartoria led the sessions around building a collaborative culture at Numurkah Primary School and Jacqueline Hope, our literacy leader, led the professional development around reading. It was great to see teachers working together and having robust discussions about learning. The day began with a short video of students sharing with us what they understand to be learning and finished with Michelle Davis introducing us to our new Drumbeat Program which she has started with a group of students this term. The program seeks to build resilience through rhythm and uses hand drumming to foster improved levels of personal and social confidence. She will work with a different group of students each term.
