Student Leadership

College Captain Update

Above and Beyond

On behalf of the Year 12 Leadership Team, a very warm thank you to all the students and staff members for their dedication and contribution towards the recent Valentine’s day fundraisers.  We appreciate your time, efforts and the positive attitude you brought to assist us with this. As you most of you may know, the money raised from the sales on valentine’s day will be subsidized towards the Year 12 Valedictory night on October 25th.

Senior Study Centre

The senior study centre is now open for Year 12 Students to use as a communal hub during lunchtime. It has enabled us to collaborate, share ideas and organise future events. In addition, the study centre will also be used for preparation, planning and finding ways to celebrate our school values and success of students.

Year 12 Camp

Term 1 is almost halfway gone, and we feel well equipped to embrace the challenges ahead of us in our last year of school. Of course, this would not have been possible had we missed the opportunity to experience the Year 12 study skills camp, which was run last month from  Wednesday 8th - Friday 11th February .

The camp was designed to build and improve crucial study skills, and maintain a balanced and healthy life through workshops and activities. These workshops were operated by some of the amazing teachers of HPSC, which boosted our ability to think critically, manage our time by making a study timetable, tackle stress through meditation and confront exam questions through ‘TAFMA’.

In addition, the activities developed our capability to work collaboratively and solve problems. Moreover, we learnt how to prioritise things when we are on tight timelines and support each other when we may be feeling overwhelmed. It was a great success, so thank you to Mr Christiansen, the Year 12 Team and accompanying staff who organised and supervised the camp.

Leadership Meetings

So far in our leadership roles we have been having weekly meetings with Miss Louden to improve our leadership skills by reflecting upon the past events we have contributed to and preparing for what is ahead. These meetings have supported us to lead school events in formal occasions both within and outside school and has assisted us with advancing our confidence with public speaking. We have worked with Mr Haworth, Ms Craven, Ms Vanstan and Ms Haynes to ensure the smooth operation of the whole school assembly, Dylan Williams Professional Development for staff and the Year 7/VCE & VCAL information nights which were all a great success!

SRC Application Update

We would like to congratulate all the applicants from all year levels for their hard work throughout the application process to become leaders in our college. Just a reminder that interviews for SRC and leadership roles are completed in collaboration with our current SRC leaders Ana and Felicity from Year 12, and the chosen applicants will be announced in the next assembly.

The Student Voice Class Representatives and Domain Leaders will be the next positions allocated, keep an eye out on the Compass Newsfeed and at Values Assemblies for more information.

International Women’s Day 2019

As a multicultural and diverse community, we would like to wish all the women in our community, a harmonious International Women’s Day. To celebrate this day, our college has organized a netball game where students from all year levels will be encouraged to participate for fun.

The theme for International Women’s Day 2019, which will take place on March 8, will be ‘to address the current issues women are facing and how to defend their own rights’. This event will provide our students and staff the opportunity to hear from a range of speakers on the day during our Values Assemblies as well as reflect on what it means to them.
