Student Engagement Update

What a busy but fantastic start to the year!

Just a few things from me about Student Engagement across the college. The Le Mana Pre Season program is off to a good start with around 20-25 students each Tuesday afternoon engaging in physical activity run by outside providers Rob and Paora such as Boxing and Rugby in the Gym. All year 10-12 students are welcome so please join us from 1.30pm -2.30pm with your runners next week.  The Junior and Middle School students involved in the Le Mana Empower Program have just completed their 3rd session and are learning and exploring  different cultures, identity and positive decision making.

We have kicked off the year with some exciting Staff vs Students Competitions which have been highly competitive and we have seen some outstanding (and some not so great) performances from both sides. The current score is 4-0 to the Staff (let’s hope this continues!). A shout out to Stefanie Cook our Sports Domain Leader who has been exceptional in the planning and delivery of these events. Thank you to all the staff and students who have participated and supported so far this year.

There are many students in leadership roles across the school who are working really hard behind the scenes. The College Captains and SRC who have done an amazing job so far this year with their extra responsibilities.  Our Senior Domain Leaders, who have begun their work with their teams and are planning their activity weeks,  music themes for transition times and ways to provide a voice to students in every classroom to improve our learning and teaching. The House Leaders have done a fantastic job mentoring Peer Support Leaders and encouraging their peers to dress up and celebrate House Pride at the Swimming Carnival. Additionally, our 2019 Peer Support Leaders who have been collaboratively planning and delivering one session a week to our Year 7 Students focusing on positive our values of Respect, Learning and Working Together, whilst developing positive communication and House Spirit.

I would like to thank a few student ambassadors who have gone above and beyond outside school hours to make positive contributions to our community. Last week we had the Year 7 Welcome Barbeque. Ryan Tanielu, Izack Faumina, Maurice Roberts, Asafo Te’o and Christian Dean did an outstanding job cooking for 150 guests in 37 degree heat. They were respectful, positive role models and I am very grateful to them for their hard work and commitment to our college. Their enthusiasm and positive nature made it very easy for everyone involved and we look forward to working with you again.  Additionally, a group of eager Peer Support Leaders did a fantastic job of welcoming and entertaining the little ones who came along to the information evening,  Gagan Singh, Eda Kocak, Asafo Te’o, Faisal Karim, Tyler Hutchins and Izack Faumina.  A great job from Tyreese Armstrong and Blake Gittens for acknowledging the traditional owners of our land and welcoming our guests at both information evenings, we appreciate your time and efforts.

And last but not least, a huge congratulations to our VCAL Domain Leaders Stacey Cameron and Leroy Lesoa who wrote and delivered honest and informative speeches at our VCE/VCAL information evening to caregivers and students. They provided wonderful insight into what it is like at TAFE and Workplacement and shared how their chosen pathway of VCAL is opening up many opportunities for their futures.

We are very proud of your efforts.

I am excited to see what our students get up to in the next few weeks and look forward to sharing that with you.
