Middle School Leader Update

I hope that everyone has had a safe and relaxing winter break and has come back ready to engage in everything that the College has in store for Term 3.

This Term started on Tuesday 16/7 with a whole school assembly. We would like to congratulate all our students who contributed to the ‘Tales of Hampton Park’ book, the Casey Migrant Art Project and our Sport Mentors who were recognised for their contributions in Term 2.

Term 3 is a time for Middle School students to engage in their future pathways and determine what their senior pathway will look like. This coming Wednesday, the 24th of July, starting at 6pm in the RPAC all families from Middle School are invited to attend the Later Years Expo. Following a presentation that outlines the various programs on offer, such as VCE, VCAL and VET, students with the caregivers, will have the opportunity to speak to representatives from different TAFE’s and Universities. Teachers will also be there to discuss the different school based subject options that students can choose from. This night is essential for Year 10 students to assist them in choosing a pathway that helps them to achieve success in their Senior Schooling. For our Year 9 students it is an opportunity to consider if an accelerated VCE, VCAL or VET program is something that they would like to undertake in 2020.

Following the information evening all Year 10 students will have a course counselling meeting with a staff member from the College and their caregiver to determine if they have the skills and learning disposition to be successful in their intended pathway. Please keep your eyes on Compass for your opportunity to book these meetings. All Year 9 students who have indicated that they would like to participate in VET/VCAL or VCE in 2020 will also be contacted to arrange a meeting time over this Term.

This is an exciting time for students in Middle School as they take more ownership of their education and make choices that will assist them to achieve their goals.

Year 10 Work Experience Report

During Term 2, our Year 10 students participated in a work experience program.

Here are some of the experiences our students undertook

I did my work experience at TJ’s auto service.  On the first day I was cleaning up the shop and putting the tolls where they belong.  After like two hours of cleaning there was a car that showed up.  I had to do a service on the car and change the oil and check if the brakes were good.  After we finished servicing the car, I went to the shops to get some lunch.

All week I was servicing cars.  I really enjoyed what I was doing, and I would love to do it for a job.  On the last day I was very busy fixing a car and trying to put a transmission in the car which we ended up doing and I love it.  The best thing I have done yet with working with cars.

My work experience was at a funeral parlour, Classic Funerals.  My first day I witnessed just how a deceased gets cleaned and clothed to go into a coffin for a viewing.  After that day I then attended a funeral and helped with the flowers and informed people the things they needed to know.  I then also visited Frankston Hospital to pick up deceased bodies and I got to see how many others were there.  I then also saw how someone embalms a deceased person to prepare and preserve the body for a viewing at a funeral.

On Thursday I had the lucky opportunity to go into the city and go into the coroners and see what it is and what happens there.  Meanwhile all through the week I had been attending and helping with funerals, we were always out on the road or doing something – no office work!

My work experience was very eye opening and I enjoyed it a lot.  I am glad I went there and nowhere else because I have now realised it will be something I may consider doing in my future.

For my work experience I worked at the Hampton Park Veterinary Hospital.  My jobs that I had to do was cleaning, mopping, vacuuming consult rooms/reception, helping with dentals, cleaning after dentals, restocking the consult rooms, making sure the animals were calm and happy like taking them out to the back and walking them but also I got to clean the animals and groom them.

Working there was just so amazing.  The environment was positive, and the workers were so polite as well.  The were giving me a lot of information on what they do or must do and parts of an animal’s body as well on where you need to remove blood from.

Working there has given me a real insight and image on what I want to do in the future, as the work experience only went for 1 week.  I have been given the opportunity to volunteer there whenever they need me and since my work experience I have managed to volunteer there once but also will be getting chances in the holidays and over the summer break.

Well Done Hale and Joseph!

Congratulations to Joseph and Hale on graduating successfully from Operation Newstart!

The program is designed to help students reach their full potential, when they are struggling to find direction and motivation. Both student did exceptionally well, and have shown growth in their resilience.

We are very proud of their efforts!
