College Musical
Congratulations to all involved in presenting this year’s College Musical, 'Monty Python’s Spamalot'. The production is the culmination of many months work from a wide variety of people- students, parents and staff. In particular, my thanks to the Performing Arts staff, all of whom were responsible for the success of the show; Mr Jevon Scandrett, Mr Daniel Pedersen, Mr Tom Thorneycroft, Mrs Stephanie Abela, Ms Jacqueline Flood, Ms Jacquelyne Armstrong, Ms Jade Leonard, Mr Linden Koodravsev, Ms Stephanie Opasinis and Mr Nick Frampton. Ms Robyn Cole took charge of the singing and band this year, producing an amazing sound from both. There were many other staff involved to varying degrees but I would also like to mention Ms Kerri Batch and Miss Felicity Donohue (Stage Management), Mrs Kelly Brennan (Audio and Stage Crew) and Ms Sherry Sadler and Mrs Caron Flynn (Props), all of whom gave up much of their own time to provide the experience for our students. More than 900 people enjoyed the silliness of Spamalot and we hope it cheered you up too.
Senior College Play
Last night the first rehearsal of this year’s senior play, a French Neo-classical Comedy called 'Tartuffe' was held. Eleven students will work alongside Director, Ms Jacquelyne Armstrong, the Year 10 Theatrecraft class overseen by Ms Jacqueline Flood and myself to present this elaborate tale of deception. First performed in 1664, is one of the most famous theatrical comedies by Molière. The characters of Tartuffe, Elmire, and Orgon are considered among the greatest classical theatre roles. Tartuffe will open on Wednesday 16 October for three performances. Save the date.
Kool Skools Recording Project
For the second year running, we are about to take a group of 30 music students to Studio 52 in Collingwood to record an album of original songs. Students involved applied earlier in the year and have developed and refined their song writing skills in preparation. Their recording date is Wednesday 21 August and then the album will be launched and on sale on Tuesday 29 October as part of the Twilight Music Night.
Mr Nick Frampton
Last Thursday night, following the musical, we made a presentation to Mr Nick Frampton who has gone across to Kolbe Catholic College to set up their brand-new music program. After three and a half years here, he was thanked by the Principal and myself for the innovations he brought to Aitken and the enthusiasm he demonstrated for Music. We wish him well and welcome Ms Jade Leonard in his place.
