This week's School Leaders Meeting

Last Friday was 'Crazy Hair Day' at St John's following on after the previous week which was 'Bring Your Pet to School Day'. The students really managed to show some artistic flair on both occasions (above). We also have the School Leaders Meeting each Friday and this week it was a crazy hair affair.

Remote learning Term 3

There are so many wonderful things happening during remote learning.

Maggie will be in Prep 2021 and is already getting into the Community Spirit here at St John's.

Keira’s great work on Wellbeing Day included spending time in the garage with her Dad cutting up blocks of wood (including the base) then inside to finish her project with painting and decorating. Keira designed this on her own, making an Island with a Church. Her vision, stemmed from her recent Inquiry learning, on her chosen Country and religion.

The Big Watermelon Experiment

Last Monday the students onsite predicted how many rubber bands it would take to make a watermelon explode. It took 218 elastic bands.

Gemma: I really enjoyed the Watermelon Experiment because it was interesting and funny when a little bit of watermelon went on me.

Bella: The experiment was very cool because the watermelon exploded everywhere.

Lachlan: It was so cool. The pressure from the elastic bands made the watermelon explode.

Mrs Gridley took a video of the last few rubber bands being added.

School Sport Victoria Virtual Track and Field

All Victorian students are welcome to take part in this great opportunity. There are several ways you can be involved. SSV is not looking for the best performance, they are looking for students to give it a try. By taking part in this great event, you will not only score points for our school, but you will also be improving yourself every time you try. There is nothing better than self-improvement and personal bests.

Virtual Track and Field offers a selected number of disciplines. Inspired by Olympians, Team Vic Alumni and SSV Ambassadors:

  • Sprints: (60m, 80m, 100m, 200m, 400m)
  • Run or walk: (800m, 1500m)
  • Jumps: (standing long jump and standing triple jump)
  • Throw: (tennis ball shotput)
  • Combined event: 100m sprint, standing long jump, tennis ball shotput and 800m run.

Students can take part in one or all the events. There are loads of great events on offer. What are you waiting for, hit the local oval, try your best?

St John's is currently coming 21st of all Victorian Schools.

National Walk to School Day

Friday 11 September is National Walk to School Day. Although we will not be at school here in Melbourne, we would like to encourage families to walk to St John's sometime during the day. The students onsite have planted sunflower seeds for each family. Sunflowers are a symbol of hope, connectedness and solidarity during these challenging and somewhat difficult times. The sunflower seedlings will be on a table at the front of the school for each family to take to plant in their garden at home.
