Early Commencement Programs

Early Commencement Programs and a new Year 9 semester subject in 2023

As 2022 comes to a close, the new school year begins early for all students with the 2023 Early Commencement Programs starting soon. Beginning with Year 11's going into Year 12 on 18th November, students will kick start their transition to Year 12 by attending an excursion to RMIT to learn about university life and set goals for 2023, then begin Year 12 classes on 21st November.

Over 2 weeks, our new Year 12 students will begin their Year 12 programs, engaging in coursework and receiving instructions for holiday homework over the summer break. This is an important time for the new Year 12's to start on a positive and productive note by being prepared and attending all early commencement classes to ensure they maximise their opportunities to learn. We encourage all parents and students to prepare by ordering required texts from the booklists as soon as possible, especially their English or Literature novels which they are expected to read over the holidays.

Early commencement programs for Years 8-11 are listed below:

Year 10 into 11: 28th Nov – 2nd Dec

Years 8, 9 and 10: 5th Dec – 14th Dec

In curriculum news, Epping SC will partner with Whittlesea Tech School to deliver a semester program at Year 9 titled "Foodlab Entrepreneurship".  The program will introduce students to the relationship between global warming and meat production. Students will be challenged to design a vegetarian food product that appeal to their peers. They will use design thinking as an inquiry framework to design their product as well as following an entrepreneurship process to market and test their product.

This subject is for all students and will cater to a variety of interests and pathways including Science, Humanities, Art, Media, Technology, Food Studies and Business Managment. Students will have a degree of choice in the way they work together and the roles they play in the inquiry process. What's important is that students will have agency in their own learning and develop the transferable skills of inquiry and problem solving that can be applied to any subject or career they pursue in the future.

The 'Foodlab Entrepreneurship' subject includes two visits to Whittlesea Tech School to work in the food lab making their product and the maker space designing and creating the packaging. This is a fantastic new partnership that we are sure will engage our Year 9 students and offer a unique experience in their school journey.
