Deputy Principal's
Report - Years 7, 9, 11
As relieving Deputy Principal for year 7, 9 and 11 for term 4, l am looking forward to working with the students and families of these year groups as there are a range of exciting opportunities ahead.
On Tuesday 25 October we hosted the Stage 6 Parent Information Evening. It was a fantastic turnout by all students in Year 11 who are starting their HSC journey. The night consisted of presentations by the Principal, Mr Backhouse on the Policies and Procedures of the HSC and School Based Assessment, Mrs Wearne talked about the ATAR and the importance of student rankings and finally we had Mr Hoad the School Counsellor who suggested positive strategies for stress management and building family relationships during the HSC period.
If any student was unable to attend the evening, they are reminded that they must collect their HSC Assessment Schedule from the Deputies office.
Students and families of Year 11 are reminded about the Year 11 Life Ready Camp that is happening in Week 10 this term (Wednesday 14 to Friday 16 December). Life Ready is a mandatory 25-hour course designed to prepare and support senior students as they encounter situations related to health and safety as they become more independent and gain more responsibilities. It focuses on offering opportunities for students to build the functional knowledge and skills for life post school. A reminder to all families that final payment and permission notes are due by Friday 4th November to ensure that all bookings can be finalised.
As is tradition at Henry Kendall, students in Year 10 will commence their Stage 6 Preparation Program throughout Week 7, 8 and 9.
Week 7 is taster week where students will experience their Year 11 courses with their class teachers and have a brief experience of what it will be like as a senior student. This is valuable for all students as they are able to ask questions about their chosen courses and clarify anything they are unsure of before they start their Stage 6 journey.
Throughout week 8 students will have a range of experiences from external providers. These presentations will be based on safe partying, youth mental health, career progression, project-based learning opportunities and study skills. All of which are designed to provide a wide range of opportunities for our Year 10 cohort. Year 10 will finish the week with an excursion to Terrigal Beach where they will participate in a range of fun activities led by Mr Mellish.
On Monday 5 December (Week 9) students will undertake their elective option. These include either Tree Tops, Laser Tag or SUP/Kayaking. Week 9 will focus on Skill Building and team cohesion with the final PBL movies shown on Friday during period 4 and 5 in the MPC.
All students will receive a Stage 6 Preparation Program Booklet that provides them with all of the details that they require for the three-week period.
