Denise's Message

Dear Families,

School Closure Day - MONDAY 28TH NOVEMBER

On this day our staff will be meeting to plan and prepare for 2023.

The holiday program will be available on this day, please contact YLV to make a booking.

Remembrance Day

This Remembrance Day, join the world in honouring those who have served and sacrificed.

Like many other countries where it is observed, Australia’s Remembrance Day is on November 11. This day is dedicated to Australian soldiers who lost their lives in World War I and onwards. As an act of solidarity, we observe a minute of silence at 11am to pay our respects to those who died fighting while protecting the nation. Initially known as Armistice Day, the Australian Government adopted the United Kingdom’s proposal of renaming the day Remembrance Day. Our school community stopped today at 11am to remember these soldiers and to pray for peace throughout our world.

Art Show

St Michael's inaugural Art Show is on Thursday 24th November, 4:30pm-7:30pm!

Put the date into your calendar and make sure you come along to see the amazing art done by our students over the past two years. The children have worked very hard to create their artwork and are excited to be able to finally show them off!

On the night you will have the opportunity to bid in a silent auction for some class-created art pieces and you will be entertained by our fabulous rock band and choir.

Swimming

Our Prep -Year 2 children have thoroughly enjoyed their swimming lessons this week and have improved their swimming skills greatly in such a short time. Our Year 3-Year 6 children will have their swimming lessons next week.

Prep Orientation

We welcome back our 2023 Prep children for their second Orientation session next Tuesday 15th November. We wish them another fun-filled day.

Drop Off and Pick Up Traffic

It is very disappointing that I finish this newsletter on a negative note.

I begin by thanking those parents and carers who continue to focus on the safety of all children when dropping off and picking up their children from school.

I just cannot understand nor can I accept the selfish and dangerous behaviour of some drivers who seem to believe that they have the right to park anywhere when picking up their child after school.

You are never allowed to park on the school crossing and you are not allowed to stop on the road and have children get into the car nor can you double park on the bike lane. These are all extremely unsafe driving behaviours.

I again ask you to be responsible and consider all children when driving your car near the school.

If parents/carers' driving and parking behaviour does not improve I will be contacting the police and the Melbourne City Council parking attendants and requesting that they monitor the school and fine those drivers not following the road rules.
