A Message from Hannah & Keir

We would like to acknowledge and honour the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which our school stands. We pay our respects to all First Nations elders, past present and emerging.

Transition Inquiry

As you would have read in our last newsletter, BNWPS is embarking on a new Inquiry journey this week. For the rest of the term, and, as a whole school, we will be exploring and unpacking ‘change and transition’. Our school wide key understanding for this Inquiry is;

I have grown and I am ready for change. I can use tools to build my resilience, personal and social skills and self-efficacy to make a positive transition into 2023

Together, teachers and students will dig deeply into this understanding as a means of ensuring that students are aware of the strategies that they can bring to new and challenging situations. Students will be working on the creation of an ‘artifact’ that they will be able to hand over to their 2023 teacher to help them get to know each other.

One component of this Inquiry will be the change and transition sessions that will take place every Wednesday morning starting next week. These sessions will involve students going into mixed groups that represent the cohort that they will be in next year. These groups are not the 2023 classes, and these teachers are not the teachers that students will have in 2023. The focus of these sessions is to apply the tools that are highlighted in the key understanding in a real -life ‘change’ situation.

Foundation 2023 Transition

At the same time that these transition and change sessions are running, we will be welcoming a whole new set of Foundation families into BNWPS. 2023 Foundation transition begins next Wednesday (9th November). If you have not yet enrolled your child in Foundation for 2023, oor you know of a family that is still thinking about BNWPS, it’s not too late! Please give the office a call on 9386 4624 and they can assist you with the enrollment process.

Senior's Camp Forum

We understand that allowing your child to attend camp in Canberra is a big choice for families, that requires trust in the school’s processes. Tonight we will be hosting an online community forum for parents, carers and students going to Grade 5/6 camp, to provide more information and answer questions from our community.

The forum will be happening from 5 - 5:45 pm tonight - we will record the session for anyone unable to attend at that time.

During this forum we will be discussing the bus schedule, activity schedule, COVID management plan, accomodation, food and technology at camp as well as answering all the questions that were sent in from the community.

We look forward to seeing you online.

Class Placement - Family Input

Now that grade structures have been decided, we start the exciting process of building classes! Teachers will create, analyse, compare and unpack countless class models over the next few weeks. Classes are created using what we know about our students along with what students and families have shared as being important to their learning next year.

If you have information you want to share with the school to help inform class placements, we ask that you use this survey to let us know. We ask that you complete the survey, even if you have emailed the school over the past few weeks; while we endeavour to keep track of all information, this is a complex process and we like to be sure.

Your privacy is important - your survey responses will only be viewed by Keir and Hannah, with relevant information being shared with teams as required. Please be aware that by completing this survey you are sharing information, not making recommendations to the school.

Teachers' Day

In Victoria, and at BNWPS, we celebrated World Teachers’ Day last Friday, 28 October.

World Teachers' Day is a chance to recognise and celebrate all of the amazing BNWPS  teachers who make a huge impact on our lives on a daily basis. This year's theme 'The transformation of education begins with teachers.' highlights the essential role a teacher plays in the education of young people. The past few years have really reinforced that good curriculum and resources are not enough; that teachers bring an Art and a Science to teaching that engages learners, challenges them at their point of need and provides them with strategies for the moment and their future.

Let’s give all of the teachers at BNWPS a huge round of applause and a big Hip-Hip-Hooray for the brilliant work that they do and don't forget to give a bit of love to these very special humans in our community.
