Term 4 has been an eventful term for the Visual Arts Department. As they embark upon their HSC year, students have had the opportunity to engage with a range of art excursions, experiences and awards to embolden them creatively. These excursions included a visit to the Archibald Prize, participation in our own Wyndham College Portrait Prize, visits to Cockatoo Island, Sculpture by the Sea and Sydney’s newest art gallery the Sydney Modern. Photography students also visited Circular Quay to photograph Sydney’s iconic waterside city environment.
Congratulations to Film Studies student Lachlan George for being a finalist in this year's Senior Section for his entry into the V-Fest Competition for his entry “WHAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND”.
The V-Fest Competition, hosted by Rose Bay College, received an overwhelming number of entries and the twenty two junior and senior entries selected will be screened at the Chauvel Cinema in Paddington. If you are unable to attend the LIVE screening, V-Fest 2022 will also be simultaneously screened on YouTube.
Lachlan's video has already received 30,000 views in one month with over 230 supportive comments. Congratulations to Dimitri Papanis for his guest appearance in the film!

June Phillips has been selected for inclusion in ARTEXPRESS 2022 (Virtual Exhibition VX). Her controversial photographic artwork ‘Fair and Lovely’ explores contemporary issues of colour, skin tone and race. June's artwork is printed on a vinyl banner and mocks 'Fair and Lovely' advertisements that create profit by degrading people. Her body of work exposes unjust values in South Asian countries which push people to take extreme measures to fit the beauty standards. June says "Fair is not the only lovely”.
Congratulations to June Phillips!

Visual Arts, Photography, Film and Life Skills students visited Bondi to take in the 2022 Sculpture by the Sea exhibition. Students spent the day photographing and filming sculptural works and experiencing the best Bondi has to offer. We were very fortunate with the weather!
Visual Arts students visited Cockatoo Island to develop a mini Body of Work in preparation for their HSC year. Students were to explore the island and its history, documenting their process with sketches, photographs and expanded artmaking practices once back at school.

Schools Preview Day for the Art Gallery of NSW’s newest addition the ‘Sydney Modern’ immersed our students in contemporary art while experiencing Australia’s brand new state of the art, architecturally designed exhibition space. Wyndham College were lucky enough to be invited to the very first preview of The Sydney Modern which will open to the general public on 3rd December 2022.
Earlier this year our Photography students experienced a trip to Circular Quay. As part of their assessment task, they were asked to document and curate a photo essay that expresses themes of architecture, abstraction, and shape/form.
Wyndham College are excited to be part of NAFF ‘The Nirimba Arts Film Festival’. The annual festival showcases artworks and design projects from the Nirimba Education Precinct's educational organisations.
Our exhibition includes artworks curated and selected for Art Express, finalist films from various film competitions and Preliminary HSC work.
