WELLBEING REPORT

Congratulations to Year 12, 2022 on their wonderful Formal evening. They looked stunning and everyone commented on the wonderful atmosphere.

We had a very successful Orientation Day for our new 2023 Year 11students, who were supported by our Wyndham Wingmen and staff in getting to know each other and the school. Hopefully they will all feel settled and ready to start next year.

This is my last newsletter, as I am retiring at the end of this year to enjoy more time with my family and my hobbies which includes travelling and learning new skills.

I would like to say a special thank you to the hard-working amazing Wellbeing Team at Wyndham College. We were recently nominated for an award in the Outstanding Work With Young People From Diverse Cultures, Backgrounds, and Life Experiences category at the NSW Youth Work Awards. We did not win, however it highlighted to all of us the great work that has been happening here at Wyndham. It has been my privilege to head this team over the last 8 years and I have really enjoyed working with the students, staff, parents/carers and community.

As always at the end of the year there are changes to staffing and what we know at this stage is the following staff will be working in the team:

Head Teacher Well-Being – Rachel Kelso

ATSI Year Adviser – Brendan Hourigan

Platinum Year Adviser – Sally Govett

Year 11 Year Advisers :

Nathan Hulands (A -L)

Michelle Bromley (M- Z)

Year 12 Year Advisers:

Rohit Prakash (A-L)

Toyer Christian (M-Z)

Student Support Officer – Sara Imanian

Wellbeing & Engagement Counsellor – Juanita McMillan

Chaplain – Tim Gleeson

As always, the Principal Caz Lasker

Year 11 Deputy Classa Martinuzzi & Year 12 Deputy – TBC, will be an integral part of the team.

I would like to wish all students, families, and staff a very Merry Christmas and a safe & relaxing holiday.

Now to more mundane, but important matters -

students need to check their emails and Sentral regularly for information about important school events.

Please remember that all school fees are to be paid so that the students can attend the Year 12 Formal in 2023, this includes the $30 Life Ready Program fee. If there are financial difficulties parents/carers are encouraged to complete the Student Assistance application form now to work out a plan to assist with payments.  Year Advisers have these forms or ask at the College Office.

A reminder to parents/carers and students to please keep us informed about changes to your circumstances eg. phone numbers, addresses, emergency contact people, health issues, major life changes eg. significant illnesses or deaths in families etc. It is imperative that we keep up to date records to ensure a supportive school community. Your assistance is essential.

NSW Youth Work Awards 2022

Congratulations to our Wellbeing Team who were nominated for an award in the

category "Outstanding Work with Young people from Diverse Cultures, Backgrounds and Life Experiences" at the NSW Youth Work Awards were held on 17 November 2022. at the  Australian Theatre for Young People's beautiful new premises at Sydney Harbour.

Wyndham College faced some tough competition, and whilst we did not win the category, we are all extremely proud of the Wellbeing Team for their awesome efforts and achievements.

The Wellbeing Team at Wyndham College is made up of teachers, Year Advisors, Deputy Principals, School Counsellors and support staff who go above and beyond standard practices for the diverse cohort of youth at the College. Their response during the COVID-19 restrictions saw every young person contacted on multiple occasions to check on their wellbeing and learning, with referrals to counsellors and other support staff made, strategies to encourage non-engaged students, and individual learning and/or wellbeing plans developed and activated. They are consistently searching for new and exciting initiatives to support students and are insightful and caring individuals. They actively live out the Department of Education's Strategic Plan (2018-2022) core statement of "every student is known, valued and cared for".

The 'Awards' is a great time to celebrate the amazing work the sector has achieved this year. We hear so often from young people that what makes a real difference in their lives is the worker who cares, and it is important to honour that. The 'Awards' is a fun celebration for everyone to mingle and hear about some of the outstanding achievements across the sector.
