SPECIALIST CLASSES

Performing Arts:
This term the students have focused on listening to and responding to instrumental music - from as far back as the Baroque period (Yr5-6) to contemporary Symphony orchestras.
Students have explored and identified instruments of the orchestra and even named famous composers who wrote some very well known classics! Lots of work appears on students’ SEESAW accounts, if you would like to take a closer look and discuss your child’s learning in this area further with them.
We now look forward to working on Christmas Carols for our upcoming special event on Wednesday December 7th. We hope you can all join us to celebrate and sing along with some ol’ favourites.
Visual Arts:
Each level has started the term with studying Claude Monet and his french impressionalist work. Each child then has completed work inspired by Monet's work
Preps:
The Preps have completed tasks using skills like oil resist painting, collage and printing. Take a look.
Years 1 and 2:
The 1-2's worked with tissue paper to create backgrounds then manipulated the paper to make water lillies. They also experimented with chalk pastels to combine colours like the impressionists did. Take a look.
Years 3 and 4:
The 3-4's focussed on the broad short brush strokes used by Monet. They experimented with paint then had a go using paint slicks. We have also been developing our drawing skills this term. Take a look.
Years 5 and 6:
The senior students experimented with watercolour crayons to create an image inspired by Monet's landscapes. The outcomes were wonderful. They are currently investigating a famous artist of their choice and creating art work inspired by that artist.
Indonesian:
Selamat pagi (Good morning), I am very glad to share our students' amazing creations so far in our Indonesian program. Bagus! (Congratulations to all students on their efforts!)
Preps:
The Preps have looked into important places in our community (e.g., rumah/house, sekolah/school, Gereja/Church, and toko/shop).
Years 1 & 2:
The 1-2 students are creating Indonesian posters about how we can look after our environment.
Years 3 & 4:
The 3-4 students are building miniatures of an Indonesian traditional house called "Rumah Joglo".
Years 5 & 6:
The 5-6 students have a massive project of reconstructing Indonesia, Papua province's community house "Rumah Honai" and its natural environment.
Please also pray for the families who have been impacted by the devastating earthquake in West Java province. Terima kasih dan Tuhan memberkati. (Thank you and God bless.)
Library & Digi Tech
During Library lessons this term, Prep-Year 4 students have listened and responded to fiction and non-fiction texts about birds of prey. They have spent time observing the peregrine falcons that nest in Melbourne’s CBD each year. Students were provided with opportunities to make and record their observations, wonderings and new vocabulary they encountered as the chicks grew and developed into fledglings.
During Digi Tech lessons, Prep and Year 1/2 students have been learning to describe, follow and represent algorithms. Prep students have enjoyed experimenting with programming our Cubetto robotic devices and Year 1/2 students have continued to program our Blue-Bots. They have also been introduced to Scratch Jnr (an introductory programming language).
Year 3/4 students have also been focusing on programming during their Digi Tech sessions this term. They are learning to design and develop digital solutions using block based programming and use loops to make their algorithms more efficient.
During their Library and Digi Tech lessons, Year 5/6 students have become DigiPreneurs (Digital Entrepreneurs)! They have been working collaboratively to design a digital solution (an app) to help solve a sustainability problem within our school community. They have brainstormed ideas, created wireframes and are currently building a prototype of their app using POP by Marvel. Over the next couple of weeks, our Year 5/6 students will present their apps by participating in a Shark Tank type presentation. They are looking forward to sharing their work with their peers and impressing our very own panel of Sharks!
