Prayer

This week we keep those in our state's Central West and North in our prayers as they experience a natural disaster with rains and flooding.

Lord, we pray for all those suffering from the ravages of natural disaster.

Keep them safe, and bring help to them soon.

Surround them with your love and the love and compassion of others that they may be sustained in this time of trouble.

Grant them encouragement, strength, fortitude, patience and insight as they struggle with their many losses - material, physical, emotional and personal.

Help them to pick up the pieces to build a new, strong, hopeful future for themselves, their community and loved ones.

We pray also for our emergency service personnel and all those helping the affected. Grant them courage as they continue to do this important work, looking beyond themselves for the sake of others.

Remembrance Day

Last Friday's Remembrance Service was a very significant occasion to mark Remembrance Day.

Many ex-students and families of the College were in attendance. Among our special guests were: Major Rod White AM, Mr Jim Fitzgerald, Mr Peter Hoffman and his wife Deborah, Mr Ted Myer, Members of the De Sisto family - Mrs Maria Barrett, Mr Jon Barrett, Ms Julia Taranto and Ms Claudia Taranto, Mrs Barbara Brannan and her daughter Bernadette.

We remember also some of our College stalwarts who are no longer with us: Mr Phil Chaplin, Mr John Cantrall and Mrs Mary Cantrall, Mrs Margaret Tosatto, and Mrs Ella Taranto.

We had a range of apologies for a variety of reasons: Mr David Bradley and Ms Lesley Adams who are unwell at present, Justice Michael Slattery Old Boy and current High Court Judge, Mr Bill James, Mr Matthew Drago, Mr David Lethbridge, Major General Horrie Howard, Mr Pat Bright OAM, and First Day pupil from 1937 Mr Edward Brick and Br Carl Sherrin.

We also thank Mr Pat Rodgers for his occasional address.

The College orchestra was once again a wonderful live music addition to the ceremony, along with Samuel Cummins who played The Last Post and Reveille.

We pray for all those men and women who have served and especially for those St Pius X College ex-students who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

We will remember them

Lest we forget

Year 12 Formal

It was a wonderful end to the Year 12s for them to join together and celebrate the end of the HSC at the traditional Formal at Miramare Gardens in Terrey Hills on Saturday 12 November. Over 200 boys and their partners joined parents and teachers in the same function room which housed their Graduation ceremony and lunch at the end of Term 3. The Formal was a great success with good food, good company and a real sense of celebration and achievement. It was heartening to see how well the boys conducted themselves to enjoy a wonderful celebration. My thanks go to Ms Donna Janes and Ms Janelle Dempsey as well as the other staff who assisted in the preparation of the evening and attended to celebrate with the boys. The evening was a credit to all concerned.

Interim PAPA Committee

I am very grateful for the Performing Arts Parents Association and their contribution to the Performing Arts.  In a special way, I thank the outgoing President, Mrs Michelle Godfrey for her dedication and leadership.

As parents would appreciate, the Performing Arts are going through a range of changes and I have appointed an Interim PAPA Committee who will give stewardship of the Performing Arts in Term 4 and into Term 1 next year.  There will be a PAPA AGM in Term 1 once Mr Ronchetti and the new Performing Arts Coordinator are settled in the school.

The Interim Committee is:

  • Mrs Natalie Lenton: Vice President
  • Mrs Tamar Avakian: Secretary
  • Mrs Ute Appenzeller: Treasurer
  • Mrs Danielle Righi: Events Coordinator
  • Mrs Gabrielle Donlevy: Food Coordinator

My sincere thanks to this committee for their assistance in preparation for this Friday's Christmas Twilight Concert.

We are looking for volunteers to assist with the BBQ at Friday's Christmas Twilight Concert. If you are able to help, even for only 30 minutes, please email me with your best contact details and times you can assist to Ann Brady at abrady@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au. Many thanks to those who have volunteered, it is greatly appreciated.

Christmas Twilight Concert

We are looking forward to our Christmas Twilight Concert this Friday evening, 18 November. It will commence at 5.00 pm in the Junior School playground (weather permitting).  Please come along to enjoy our music and drama ensembles in their final performance of the year. Don't forget to practise your singing to join in some carols.
