Thoughts from Our Student Leaders

2022 Student Leaders & S.Cummings - Stage 3 Assistant Principal

As the school year is coming to an end, our Year 6 students have only a few weeks remaining of their 7 year primary school journey. 2023 will be a brand new exciting adventure with the beginning of high school. A 6 year path creating more stepping stones towards their bright futures. We have enjoyed watching our school leaders proudly represent our school with confidence and kindness. They are respectful, articulate and resilient.

Our school leaders were asked 2 questions focusing on their perspective regarding leadership this year and going forward in the future. Thank you to each of our leaders for their time and honesty. St Johns Park Public School students, teachers, parents and the community appreciate the commitment to their leadership roles throughout the year.

What have you most enjoyed about being a leader at SJPPS?

Starting my leadership journey in Year 3 as my class SRC, it showed me all the responsibilities of a leader, I then knew at that moment, leading others would be something I want to continue to develop. For the next consecutive years I have achieved the role of  SRC. At the end of Year 5, I wanted to expand on my knowledge of leadership so I tried out as a school leader. I was successful as School Captain. Being able to see younger children look up to me, following PB4L expectations, and making the school community a whole lot better, is something I really love and enjoyed as a young leader.

Will you continue your leadership journey in high school and beyond?

What I have believed in my three year journey of leadership is that being a leader takes time and lots of practice. I am determined to continue my leadership journey throughout high school and beyond. I believe the leadership skills I have will support me as I pursue my dreams of becoming a CEO.

What have you most enjoyed about being a leader at SJPPS?

I have enjoyed all the duties, responsibilities and opportunities afforded to me in my role as a leader at SJPPS. These include: helping lead school assemblies, raising and lowering the three flags - Australian, Aboriginal and NSW, our state flag. The best part for me was being an example to others and having younger students look to me as a role model.

Will you continue your leadership journey in high school and beyond?

I hope to work towards continually developing my leadership skills and would love any leadership opportunities in the future, whether it is at high school, university or in my future career.

What have you most enjoyed about being a leader at SJPPS?

I have enjoyed running assemblies and helping other people reach their full potential and achieve their goals. I've also enjoyed representing our school in conferences and meetings. An example was, attending Leadership by the Cowpasture, which helped me develop my teamwork skills as there were many group activities in which we had to work together to complete an assigned project or task.

Will you continue your leadership journey in high school and beyond?

Yes, I will continue my leadership journey as I enjoy working with other people and I want to keep developing my teamwork and leadership skills. In the future, I wish to have a job involving responsibility and communication. For example, an engineer is required to work in a team to design and invent a variety of data systems and machines.

What have you most enjoyed about being a leader at SJPPS?

What I've enjoyed most about being a school leader is being able to lead the students and being there for them. Other positives are being responsible to lead assemblies, attending leadership meetings with other school leaders and then having extra responsibilities from those meeting to complete at school as a team.

Will you continue your leadership journey in high school and beyond?

I definitely want to continue leadership in high school because it would continue what I've learnt this year and I want to keep supporting students who need help or are experiencing issues during high school. I would also want to continue leadership in my job because leadership is everywhere and it would be useful using my knowledge of leadership in my future career.

Thank you to our incredible leaders for their detailed answers. Wishing each of our leaders the very best in their future leadership endeavors at high school and beyond.
