Principal's Report

Mr Gerard Raven

Dear families,

It is with great excitement that I can announce that our College has been successful in listed to be a recipient of a $3 million upgrade through the Capital Grants program. This announcement has been supported in a bi-partisan manner by both the ALP and the Coalition ahead of the coming election. We are one of only three schools in the Ballarat Diocese to be included in this program for 2023.

What does this mean for us? The long awaited upgrade of the student toilet facilities, home economics kitchen and canteen will be the main priorities. This will ensure our College will be a comfortable and safe learning environment for our students to thrive in.

St Brigid’s is already well resourced and an example of that will be the highlighted at the Official Opening and Blessing of our STEAM Building on 15 November at 2pm.

All members of the St Brigid’s community are welcome to attend and be present for the Opening and Blessing by Senator Jana Stewart and Monsignor Glynn Murphy respectively. If you would like to attend, please let our reception know for planning purposes. (see invitation below)

On Monday 7 November at 10:50am we celebrate our students endeavours at the Awards and Commendations Assembly. I would like to congratulate all students for showing a willingness to extend themselves in areas both academic, sporting and community service. All members of the St Brigid’s community are welcome to attend.

I would also like to announce that Ms Jo Martin was elected as chair of our School Advisory Board (SAC) again for the next two years. I certainly value and appreciate Jo’s wisdom and expertise in matters I consult the SAC on and I thank her for taking on this responsibility again. Jo can be contacted at her St Brigid’s email address jmartin@stbc.vic.edu.au .

I am also excited to announce our College Captains and Vice Captains for 2023.

Next year, Rory Doran and Larissa Barber will be our Captains and Claire Longstaff and Bethany Arnup will be the Vice Captains. I know you agree that we will be well served by these impressive young women.

As we near the end of term, I ask for parents and care givers to support your son or daughter in the completion of their assessments to the best of their ability. Year 10 and Year 11 exams begin on the 14 November and students should be revising for these from this point on. I am often surprised by the number of hours our students work in ‘part-time’ jobs – this would be impacting on their ability to complete the necessary study time. Please read the information regarding end of term assessment sent to you from our Learning and Teaching team.

I'd like to thank Gerard Bourke for his expertise and teaching experience, as today marks his final day at St Brigid's. We appreciate his readiness to assist us when we sought his help.

Stay safe,

Gerard Raven
